Move your server from another host

Copy your world, configs, mods and player data from your old host with the Migrate tab, or upload a download, then check everything works.

Updated 6 min read

Switching hosts means copying your server's files: the world, configs, plugins or mods, and player data. The Migrate tab pulls them from your old host over SFTP or FTP, and keeps going with the page closed. If your old host offers neither, download the files there and upload them here.

Before you start

  1. Stop the server on your old host, so the world is fully saved.
  2. Stop your server here from the Console, so it can't save over the files as they arrive.
  3. Note the version the old server runs and, on Minecraft, its software (such as Paper or Fabric).
  4. Find the old host's SFTP or FTP details: address, port, username and password. The table below shows where four hosts keep them.
Important

Keep your old plan until your players have moved and you've checked the world. Cancel it last.

What to bring

BringOn Minecraft
The worldworld, world_nether, world_the_end
Configsserver.properties, config, the .yml files
Plugins or modsplugins, mods, datapacks
Player listswhitelist.json, ops.json, banned-players.json

Player inventories travel inside world. Leave logs, the server .jar and start scripts such as start.sh behind, because your server here has its own. On other games, bring saves, configs and mods, not the game's own files.

Match the version first

On Minecraft, set the same software and version in the JAR Manager tab (under More) before you copy: Change Minecraft server version or loader. On Rust or Valheim, install the same mod framework first with How to install Oxide/uMod plugins on your Rust server or How to install BepInEx and mods on your Valheim server.

Caution

Don't load a Minecraft world on an older version than it last ran on. That can corrupt the save for good.

Where your old host shows its SFTP details

Checked September 2026. If a label has moved, look for a page called SFTP or FTP.

HostWhere the details are
ShockbyteFiles tab, then SFTP Connect
Apex HostingThe FTP File Access login page. Pick FTP as the Protocol.
BisectHostingFiles tab, then SFTP. The SFTP Details window shows the host and port together, so split them.
PebbleHostFile Manager, then SFTP Details. Server Address includes sftp:// and the port, so split them.

Copy your files with the Migrate tab

  1. Open your server from the dashboard and select Migrate at the bottom of the left rail. On a phone, it's in the section menu at the top.

  2. Under Your old host's file access, pick the Protocol (SFTP, FTP or FTPS) and set Port to the one your old host shows.

  3. Fill in Address, Username and Password. Address is the host name alone, without sftp:// or :port.

  4. Select Connect & show my files.

Copy each value from your old host's SFTP or FTP page.
  5. Under Tick what to copy, check the ticks. Minecraft and Palworld start with the important folders ticked. Other games start with everything ticked, so untick what you're leaving. Select a folder's name to open it.

  6. Under Back up this server first, select Back up now. Copied files replace same-named files here, and this backup undoes that.

  7. Select Start the migration. The copy runs on our side, and we email the server's owner when it's done.

  8. When the tab shows Migration complete, run the checks below.

If your files sit inside a folder

Files keep their path from the old host. If its file list opens on a folder holding your server, your files land in a folder of that name here. In the File Manager, open it, select each item, choose Move to… and enter / as the Destination folder. If the top level already has an item of that name, such as the new server's world, rename that one first.

Migration limits

  • Each run takes up to 500 separate ticks and 100,000 files. Tick whole folders, or move the rest in a second run.
  • A server runs one migration at a time. Cancel migration stops after the current file.
  • If a run fails or is cancelled, the copied files stay, and a new run skips them.

Upload a download instead

Use this when your old host has no SFTP or FTP, or the connection keeps failing.

  1. Download your server files from the old host as a .zip or .tar.gz.

  2. In the File Manager here, select Upload and pick the archive. Browser uploads take files up to 100 MB. How to manage your server files covers the rest.

  3. Select the archive and choose Extract here. It opens .zip and .tar files, not .rar or .7z. If it unpacks into a folder, move the contents up as above.

Over 100 MB, upload over SFTP instead: Connect over SFTP with FileZilla or WinSCP. For a Minecraft world on its own, zipped with its level.dat, the World Import tab swaps it in: Upload your singleplayer Minecraft world.

Check it works

  1. Start the server. On Minecraft, Done (…s)! in the Console means it's up.
  2. Join and check your builds, inventories and plugin or mod data.
  3. Share the new address from Server address in the left rail. On Minecraft, Join your Minecraft server (and fix errors) covers joining.
  4. Cancel the old plan once everyone is in.

If something's missing

Contacting support? Quote the exact message you see and name your old host.

  • "The old host rejected that username or password." - copy both again. Some hosts use your game panel password here, not your billing one.
  • "That address doesn't exist." - remove sftp:// and :port from Address.
  • "The old host didn't answer." or "Nothing is listening on that port." - check Protocol and Port, and that the old server still exists.
  • "Your server here ran out of disk space." - untick what you don't need, such as old backups or map renders, and start again. Server out of disk space? Free it up shows what's using it.
  • A new world loads instead of yours - the files are still in a subfolder, or World folder in the Config Editor doesn't match your world's folder name.
  • Plugins or mods don't load - match the version and loader in the JAR Manager.

Frequently asked questions

Does the migration change my old server?

No. The Migrate tab only reads files from your old host.

Will the old server.properties change my port?

No. The panel resets server-ip and server-port each time the server starts.

Can I bring my own JVM flags or start script?

You don't need to. The panel sizes Java's memory from your plan's RAM and applies tuned startup flags, and the File Manager keeps start.sh locked.

Can I bring a MySQL database across?

No. Plans don't include MySQL databases, and the Migrate tab copies files only.
