Move your server from Shockbyte
Find your Shockbyte SFTP details, enter them in the Migrate tab and move the copied files into place on your new Play Your Way server.
Moving from Shockbyte takes two logins: the Shockbyte Panel, which shows your SFTP details, and the Migrate tab on your new server, which copies the files across. Ticking files and following the copy work the same for every host, so Move your server from another host covers those parts. Steps checked against Shockbyte's documentation in September 2026.
Get the server ready on Shockbyte
- Log in to the Shockbyte Panel at
panel.shockbyte.com. Its password is separate from your Shockbyte client account password. If you don't have it, use Forgot Password? on the login page. - Open the server from My Servers.
- A Shockbyte server can hold more than one instance, each with its own files. If yours has several, switch to the one you want to move before you connect.
- Stop the server so the world finishes saving.
- Take a backup to keep on your computer. Open the Backups tab, set Type to Instance, pick the instance, give it a Name and click Create Backup. Then click the download icon on its row to save a ZIP of the server.
Find the SFTP details
- Open the Files tab and click SFTP Connect.
- The Connect with SFTP dialog lists Host, Port and Username. Copy all three exactly as shown, since Shockbyte's articles describe the username in more than one format.
- The password is your Shockbyte Panel password from the login step. The dialog doesn't display it.
Connect from the Migrate tab
-
Open your server in the dashboard and click Migrate in the left rail.
-
Leave Protocol on SFTP and paste Shockbyte's Host into Address.
-
The Port box fills in
22. Replace it with the port from the Shockbyte dialog. -
Paste the Username, type your Shockbyte Panel password into Password, then click Connect & show my files.
Pick the right server folder
If the list opens on your server's own files, such as world or server.properties, tick what to copy, start the migration as the shared guide describes and skip the next section.
Shockbyte's SFTP login can open one level higher, on numbered folders such as 1. Your Server's Name, one for each server. In that case:
- Click a numbered folder's name to open it and check it holds the server you're moving.
- Tick that folder and untick any others. On Minecraft and Palworld servers nothing starts ticked here, because the tab looks for game folders at the top level. On other games every top-level folder starts ticked, including other servers' folders.
- Click Back up now, then Start the migration.
The copy keeps the folder layout from the old host, so everything lands inside a 1. Your Server's Name folder on your new server. The server can't use those files until you move them to the top level.
Move the files to the top level
When the tab shows Migration complete:
- Open the File Manager and double-click the numbered folder.
- Click an item, such as
world, then click Move to… in its details. Type/in Destination folder and click Move. - If the move fails because the top level already has an item with that name, rename the one already there (for example
worldtoworld-new) and move yours again. Your new server may already have its ownworldandserver.properties. - Repeat for each item you need, then delete the empty numbered folder.
- Start the server and join to check your world. On Minecraft, the server is ready when the Console shows
Done (…s)!. Delete the renamed copies once everything looks right.
How to manage your server files covers renaming, moving and deleting in more detail.
Cancel Shockbyte last
Keep the Shockbyte server until your players have joined the new one and the world checks out.
Shockbyte's cancellation article says a cancelled service's files are deleted and can't be restored. Keep the backup ZIP from the first section until you're settled here.
When you're ready, click My Plan at the bottom left of the Shockbyte Panel, then Plan Details and Manage Plan.
If the connection fails
The Migrate tab shows a Couldn't connect box. Match its message:
- The old host rejected that username or password - use the Shockbyte Panel password, not your client account password, and copy the username from the Connect with SFTP dialog again.
- The old host didn't answer - check the port matches the Shockbyte dialog and that the Shockbyte server still exists.
- That address doesn't exist - copy Host again exactly as the dialog shows it.
- That folder is empty - check the username belongs to this server and that the right instance is active on Shockbyte.
If none of these match, note the exact message and the Address and Port you entered, and include them when you ask for help.
Frequently asked questions
Does moving change anything on Shockbyte?
No. The Migrate tab only reads files from the old host, so your Shockbyte server stays as it is until you cancel it.
My Shockbyte server is suspended. Can I still move it?
Shockbyte's suspension article describes a Request Server Data button in its control panel that downloads a copy of the server's files. Upload that copy as shown in Connect over SFTP with FileZilla or WinSCP, then unpack a ZIP with Extract here in the File Manager.
Can I move a MySQL database from Shockbyte?
Not with the Migrate tab, which copies files only. To keep a copy, open Databases in the Shockbyte Panel, click Open Database and use phpMyAdmin's Export with the Quick method and SQL format. Check the plugin's documentation for a file-based storage option before you move.
Can I move several Shockbyte servers?
Yes. Each server here runs its own migration, so open the Migrate tab on each one and tick only the matching Shockbyte folder.
