Install XEON DRM on Your GMod Server

Add the XEON DRM module that Billy's GmodStore addons need, from the GmodStore tab or File Manager, then activate your licence.

Updated 4 min read

XEON is the licence-checking system (DRM) behind Billy's GmodStore addons, such as Billy's Logs, Billy's Whitelist and Billy's Admin Sits. Those addons won't start until two things are on your server: the xeon-drm folder that comes in the addon's download, and XEON's binary module, gmsv_xeon_drm_linux.dll, in garrysmod/lua/bin. XEON only gives the module to signed-in Steam users, so we can't fetch it for you. The GmodStore tab gives you a place to drop it once you have it.

How you know the server needs it

  • In the GmodStore tab, switch the view to Installed. An addon that is waiting on the module carries a Needs XEON DRM badge.
  • A card headed One more file: the XEON DRM module appears at the top of the tab.
  • In the Console, XEON prints a line starting Couldn't find garrysmod/lua/bin/gmsv_xeon_drm_linux.dll, and the Console offers an Upload XEON DRM link that takes you to the same card.

Add the module from the GmodStore tab

  1. In the card, press Open XEON. It opens xeon.network/download, which asks you to sign in with Steam.
  2. Download the Linux module, gmsv_xeon_drm_linux.dll. Our servers run Linux, so a Windows module is no use.
  3. Back in the card, drop the file onto Drop gmsv_xeon_drm_linux.dll here, or click the box and choose it.
  4. A message says XEON DRM module added. Restart the server from the Console tab so your addons can load it.

The panel puts the file in garrysmod/lua/bin and creates that folder if the server has never had one. It accepts gmsv_xeon_drm_linux.dll and its 64-bit twin, gmsv_xeon_drm_linux64.dll (the build for the game's x86-64 branch). Any other file name is refused with "That isn't the XEON module".

Add the module by hand

  1. Open the File Manager and go to garrysmod/lua.
  2. If there is no bin folder, create one.
  3. Upload gmsv_xeon_drm_linux.dll into it. Keep the name exactly as XEON gave it, with no spaces or extra characters.
  4. Restart the server.

Check the xeon-drm folder

GmodStore's installation steps for each Billy's addon say to move every folder in the download into garrysmod/addons, "including the xeon-drm folder". After you install from the GmodStore tab, open the File Manager, go to garrysmod/addons and check that xeon-drm is there beside the addon's own folder. If it isn't, upload it by hand as in Upload custom addons to your GMod server.

Activate your licence

  1. Restart the server once the module and the xeon-drm folder are in place.
  2. Join the server in Garry's Mod. A panel on your screen asks you to Sign in through Steam. Follow it, and XEON saves the sign-in on the server.
  3. Restart the server again.

XEON's licence isn't tied to your server's IP address or port. GmodStore strongly recommends Steam Guard on the account you use. Tampering with XEON gets a licence revoked, so don't edit its files.

Common problems

  1. The addon still won't start. Go through the checks on the GmodAdminSuite page on the Steam Workshop: reinstall the module, make sure lua/bin exists, make sure the file name has no spaces or oddities, make sure xeon-drm sits in addons, and make sure the Steam token is correct.
  2. The Steam token. On the Startup tab, the card headed Rank in the server browser holds the token. If the Console says "No account token specified", the server is signing in anonymously, and the Console offers an Add a Steam token link.
  3. The addon's other requirements. Billy's addons list GmodAdminSuite and a server with working inbound and outbound HTTP requests from Garry's Mod as requirements. See Install GmodAdminSuite on a GMod server for the first.

Next, install the addon itself, for example Billy's Logs.

Checked against xeon.network, the GmodStore listings for Billy's addons and the GmodAdminSuite Workshop page, October 2026.
