Give friends access to your server panel
Invite a friend to help run your game server from the Team tab, choose which parts of the panel they can use, and change or remove their access later.
Each person you invite signs in with their own Play Your Way account, so nobody needs your password, and they see only the tabs you allow. You stay responsible for what they do on the server, as the Terms of Service set out.
Panel access or in-game admin?
The Team tab covers the website panel. It doesn't make anyone an admin inside the game, and friends who only want to play need no invite or account, just the server address. For in-game admin, see:
- Minecraft whitelist: add players, set ops
- Rust server setup: connect, admin and wipes

Invite someone
-
In your dashboard, select Open on the server.
-
Expand More in the left rail and choose Team. With no left rail (on a phone, for example), pick it from the section menu at the top of the panel.
-
Select Invite someone.
-
Under Who are you inviting?, enter the email address they use (or will use) for Play Your Way, then select Next.
On each card, the pencil changes permissions and the bin removes access. -
Under What can they do?, pick a preset or tick the permissions you want, then select Next.
-
On Check and send, read the list under They will be able to, then select Send invite. When Invite emailed appears, the invite is on its way. If We couldn't send the email appears instead, select Copy and send them the link yourself.
The form starts on Player (friend or family), which includes Backups and Plugins & mods. For someone who only needs commands and restarts, pick Moderator.
Choose what they can do
Changing any tick after picking a preset switches it to Custom. The form only offers permissions your server can use.
| Preset | What it grants |
|---|---|
| Player (friend or family) | Console & commands, Power controls, Backups, Plugins & mods, Activity log. |
| Moderator | Console & commands, Power controls, Activity log. |
| Co-admin | Everything except Settings, so they can't rename the server, run the Settings reinstall or apply JAR Manager changes. |
Each permission unlocks these tabs:
| Permission | What they can use |
|---|---|
| Console & commands | The console and its command box (Use your server console and send commands), plus Players on Minecraft. |
| Power controls | Start, Stop, Restart and Force stop. |
| File manager | File Manager, Disk Analyser and Migrate, plus Config Editor, Datapacks and World Import (Minecraft), World Settings (Palworld) and Wipes (Rust). |
| Backups | Create, restore and delete backups. |
| Startup & software | Startup (every game except Minecraft), JAR Manager and Modpacks (Minecraft), Workshop (Garry's Mod). Applying a JAR Manager change also needs Settings. |
| Scheduled tasks | Schedules. |
| Plugins & mods | The Plugins or Mods tab. |
| Settings | Renaming the server and the reinstall in Settings. |
| Activity log | Audit Logs. |
Console & commands runs commands as the server, so on Minecraft a friend with it can op any player. Backups can download all the server's files, and a restore overwrites the live server. Startup & software can install or remove a modpack, which reinstalls the server and can replace the world.
What your friend does
- They open the email "You've been invited to manage" followed by your server's name, and select Accept invite.
- They select Sign in to accept, or Create an account, with the invited email address. A new account confirms its email first, and that email's link brings them back to the invite.
- They select Accept & open server. The server now shows under Shared with you on their dashboard.
What no permission hands over
- Billing, the plan and the subscription.
- The Team and Notes tabs.
- The SFTP password (Connect over SFTP with FileZilla or WinSCP). Friends with File manager use the browser File Manager instead.
- Backup settings and off-site backup copies.
- Changing the server's address, adding or removing extra ports, and switching the server to a different game.
Change or remove someone's access
Each person you've invited has a card in the Team tab, marked Pending or Active.
- Change permissions - select the pencil icon (Edit permissions), change the ticks and select Save. The new tabs show when they next load the panel.
- Remove someone or cancel an invite - select the bin icon, then Remove. Their access ends, and an unused invite link stops working.
- Resend an invite - invite the same address again. The new link carries the permissions you pick this time, and the old one stops working.
If an invite or permission doesn't work
- Invite not found - each link works once. If they already accepted, the server is under Shared with you on their dashboard. Otherwise, they use the newest invite email, or you send a fresh one.
- Wrong account - they sign out, open the invite link again and sign in with the invited address. Or you invite the address they already use.
- No email arrived - ask them to check spam, then resend the invite.
- That person already has access to this server. - they've already accepted. Edit their card instead.
- You don't have permission to do that. - the action needs a permission they don't have. Add it from their card.
Frequently asked questions
Can someone under 18 accept an invite?
Yes, with a parent or guardian's permission. That account mustn't be used to buy a subscription or save a payment method, as the Terms of Service set out.
Can a friend pay for my server?
No. Billing stays with the account that bought the server. If it's suspended, a friend who tries to start it is told to let you know.
Can I see what a friend did on my server?
Yes. The Audit Logs tab shows who did what, including every console command and who sent it.
Does an invite cover all my servers?
No. Each invite covers one server, so invite them from each server's Team tab. They don't see your other servers.
