Add Admins to Your Dragonwilds Server

What owners, admins and regular players can do on your Dragonwilds server, how the admin password makes admins and how to take admin back.

Updated 3 min read

Your RuneScape: Dragonwilds server has three kinds of player: the owner, admins and everyone else. You are the owner through Owner ID. This guide covers how to make other players admins, what each role can do and how to take admin back.

Checked against RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0.1, October 2026.

What each role can do

The official wiki describes the three roles on a dedicated server:

RoleHow they get itWhat they can do
OwnerTheir Player ID matches the server's Owner IDBan and unban anyone, online or offline
AdminThey know the admin passwordBan regular players who are online, but can't unban
Regular playerThey have the world nameCan't ban or unban anyone, admins and the owner included

Kick, Ban and Avoid for the owner are in the game's Esc menu under Player List. RuneScape: Dragonwilds getting started explains them.

Share the admin password

Jagex's own dedicated server guide (March 2026) says anyone who knows the admin password can enter the Server Management tab in the Pause Menu's Settings, and counts as an admin until the admin password is changed again.

  1. Open the Startup tab. Admin Password was generated for you when the server was set up.
  2. To use your own, type a password of 8 to 64 letters, numbers, dashes and underscores, and click Save.
  3. Click Restart now so the server reads it.
  4. Send the password to the people you trust, privately.
Warning

Anyone with the password is an admin, and it's the same password for everyone. Don't post it in a public Discord channel. The panel never prints it in the Console.

What about an admin list in the settings file?

Jagex's own server template has an AdministratorList setting in DedicatedServer.ini, described as a comma separated list of user IDs that have administrator access. Jagex doesn't document which ID it takes or how to write the list, and we haven't yet seen it grant admin on one of our servers, so the admin password is the way we recommend. In our test, a line added to the file on a stopped server was left unchanged by the next start, and the panel only overwrites five other lines in that section. RuneScape: Dragonwilds server settings lists them.

Take admin away

Save a new Admin Password in Startup and restart. Jagex's guide says people count as admins until the admin password is changed again, so everyone who had the old one loses admin. Send the new password only to the people who should keep it.

The Audit Logs tab records every Startup change with who made it. Passwords show as hidden.

If an admin can't see the controls

  1. They can't find Server Management - Jagex's guide puts the Server Management tab in the Pause Menu's Settings, so look there after joining. If it isn't there, send us a screenshot of the Pause Menu in a support ticket.
  2. The password is refused - it was changed, or the server hasn't been restarted since.
