Get Crude Oil in Palworld
How to get Crude Oil from both extractors, enemy drops and Oil Rig chests, and what it is used for, checked against Palworld v1.0.5.
Crude Oil is the material behind Plasteel, Flamethrower Fuel, Missile Ammo and the Wing Cell. You get it from an extractor on an oil field, from a few enemies and from Oil Rig chests, and Palworld 1.0 added a second extractor that does not need an oil field at all. This guide covers each route and what the two databases agree on.
Checked against Palworld v1.0.5 (Pocketpair's latest patch notes, 15 September 2026), October 2026.
The Crude Oil Extractor
The wiki and paldb.cc both describe the Crude Oil Extractor as the main source. paldb.cc's own text reads "Equipment required to extract Crude Oil from oil fields", and the wiki says it "must be built directly on an oil field". Both sites list it at Technology level 50, built from 125 Pal Metal Ingot and 25 Circuit Board, and both note that it needs power to run. Neither site gives a usable output rate, so this guide does not promise one.
The High-Pressure Crude Oil Extractor
Pocketpair's 1.0 notes added a "High-Pressure Crude Oil Extractor" that "can extract crude oil even without an oil field". Both databases agree on the details:
- Technology level 51
- 150 Pal Metal Ingot, 25 Circuit Board, 25 Bio Battery and 10 Ancient Civilization Parts to build
- It must sit on open ground with no structures underneath it
- It draws more power than the standard extractor
Ancient Civilization Parts are not the same as Ancient Civilization Cores. Both sites list the Alpha Dandilord as dropping 6 to 8 Parts at a 100% rate. The Dandilord is covered in How to get Ancient Civilization Cores in Palworld.
Enemy drops and chests
Both sites list these enemies as dropping 1 Crude Oil each:
- Kikit, Maraith and Sootseer: 50%
- Syndicate Crusher with a Gatling Gun: 60%
- Syndicate Crusher on a Barge Oil Rig: 15%
The wiki adds that many Syndicate enemies on Oil Rigs drop it at lower rates, and paldb.cc lists the same enemies in several rows at 30% and 15%, so this guide does not quote one figure for them.
The wiki says the main treasure chests on Oil Rigs contain Crude Oil, and paldb.cc lists the Lv55, Lv60 and Lv30 Oil Rig Greater Chests as sources. Pocketpair's 1.0 notes say the Oil Rig chest rewards were improved. The wiki says no merchant sells Crude Oil, and paldb.cc lists no shop source.
If you only need a small amount, the wiki suggests farming Kikit on Sakurajima instead of building an extractor, because an extractor uses a lot of power.
What it is used for
The wiki and paldb.cc both list Crude Oil in these recipes:
- Plasteel
- Flamethrower Fuel
- Frag Grenade Mk2
- Missile Ammo
- Wing Cell, the Wing Pack's fuel, covered in Craft the Wing Pack
The amounts differ between the two sites for some recipes, so read the recipe on screen.
On your hosted server
Crude Oil is part of the base game, so nothing needs installing. In the World Settings tab, the Rates group has an Enemy loot rate slider described as items dropped by defeated enemies. The other rates are in Palworld server settings explained.
