Get Leather in Palworld
Which Pals drop Leather and how much, where merchants sell it and what it crafts, using the amounts two sources agree on, checked against v1.0.5.
Leather is the basic defensive material in Palworld. It goes into early armour and many Pal saddles, and you cannot craft it, so you get it by defeating Pals or by buying it from wandering merchants. This guide covers the Pals that drop the most, the merchants and what Leather is used for.
Checked against Palworld v1.0.5 (Pocketpair's latest patch notes, 15 September 2026), October 2026.
What Leather is
paldb.cc describes it as "Leather taken from a Pal", a material that "serves as a defensive material". The wiki calls it a common material taken from certain Pals. Neither site lists a recipe that makes it.
Which Pals drop it
Both sites list Leather as a 100% drop from a long list of Pals, with the amount depending on the Pal. These are the amounts the two sites agree on:
- Mammorest: 5 to 10
- Eidrolon: 4 to 5
- Fenglope: 3
- Kitsun: 2 to 3
- Eikthyrdeer: 2 to 3
- Grizzbolt: 2 to 3
- Melpaca: 1
- Astralym: 1
The wiki's list is much longer than this one and includes small early-game Pals, with amounts from 1 up. The wiki also notes that a Surfent assigned to a Ranch can occasionally drop Leather. That is one source, so treat it as a lead.
For a lot of Leather quickly, Mammorest is the best listed target, since it gives the biggest amount per kill.
Buying it
The wiki says wandering merchants sell Leather and lists the Caravan Leader and the Red Shirt Merchants at Duneshelter and Fisherman's Point among them. paldb.cc lists the Wandering Merchant shops, including the caravan shop, as sellers. Check the price in the shop, since prices can change with a patch.
What it is used for
Both sites list Leather in Cold Resistant Pelt Armor and Heat Resistant Pelt Armor, and in many Pal saddles. paldb.cc says the Pelt Armor line and several Metal Armor tiers use it, and that quantities rise with higher-tier recipes. The wiki lists the Explorer Cap, the Frog Chair, Galeclaw's Gloves and the Giant Pouch as well. The amounts vary per recipe, so read the recipe on screen.
Both sites list every Pal drop above at a 100% rate, so there is no rare roll to wait for. Each kill gives the amount shown.
On your hosted server
Leather is part of the base game, so nothing needs installing. In the World Settings tab, the Rates group has an Enemy loot rate slider described as items dropped by defeated enemies. The other rates are in Palworld server settings explained.
