Satisfactory server won't start or connect?
Satisfactory server won't start, times out or the game can't find it? Read the console and the status pill, then fix the address, branch or memory.
If your Satisfactory server won't start, or the game can't connect to it, the Console and the status pill in the left rail show how far it got. This guide shows what a healthy start looks like, then the problems we see most, with the fix for each.
What a healthy start looks like
Satisfactory's own log is huge, so the Console shows a short list of plain-English lines instead. A start with a world looks like this, top to bottom:
Satisfactory build <build number>
The game's Server Manager can connect on port <your port>.
Players' reliable connection open on port <second port>.
Loading <your world> (save <save name>).
World loaded in <seconds> s. Players can join in about half a minute.
Your server is up.
Your world is ready. Players can join now.The game turns players away for about half a minute after a world loads, so don't try to join before the last line.
While the server runs, the status pill in the left rail follows the same steps:
On a new server with no world, the console says so in one line: your server is ready to add in the game's Server Manager, and it has no world yet.
The game can't find the server or times out joining
Work through these in order.
- Check the pill. If it says Getting world ready, wait for Ready to join. A big factory takes longer to load.
- Use the address and port from the left rail. The game's Add Server screen has two boxes. Copy your Server address into the address box, and your Port into the Port box in place of 7777. The game fills that box with 7777, and your server isn't on that port.
- Check the branch. If Game Branch in the Startup tab is empty, the server runs the normal game. If it says
experimental, every player needs the Experimental branch too. Put the server and your players on the same one, then restart. See How to make a Satisfactory server. - Update the game. Players on a different game build from the server may not be able to join, so make sure everyone has the latest update. The console shows the server's build on its first line.
If it still fails, the general checks (firewalls, VPNs, typos in the address) are in Can't connect to your game server.
Players drop out while joining a big factory
A large factory takes a while to send to a joining player. In the Startup tab, Initial Connection Timeout is how many seconds a joining player has to finish connecting, 30 by default. Try a higher number, such as 60, then save and restart the server. Connection Timeout (20 by default) is how long a connected player can go without hearing from the server before they're dropped.
The server stops by itself or keeps restarting
It ran out of memory
A fresh, empty world uses about 2.7 GB with nobody on it, and a large factory with players on it uses much more. The game's own guidance is 8 GB at least, and 16 GB for big saves or more than four players. If the server stops after a long session with a big factory or a full group, it may have run out of memory. Move to a bigger plan: see Upgrade or downgrade your plan.
The disk is full
A fresh server takes about 3 GB of disk, and every save and backup adds to it. Free some space with Server out of disk space.
A save won't load
If the server stops each time it loads the same world, roll back to an earlier save:
- Open the Saves tab.
- Find a save from before the problem and press Load, then Load it.
If the server won't stay up long enough for that, restore a backup from the Backups tab. The steps are in Satisfactory worlds and saves.
The game says the server is claimed by someone else
Someone set the server up in the game before Play Your Way could. Contact us and we'll reset it for you.
Checked against Satisfactory 1.2 in October 2026.
