Enshrouded worlds and saves
Bring your Enshrouded world from your PC to your server, start a fresh world, find the save files and get an old world back when you need it.
Your Enshrouded server keeps one world. This guide shows where it lives, how it saves, how to bring the world you already play in from your PC, how to start a fresh one, and how to get an old world back.
Where your world lives
Open the Files tab and go into the savegame folder. Your world is the set of files named 3ad85aea:
| File | What it is |
|---|---|
3ad85aea | The world itself. |
3ad85aea-index | Which copy of the world is the newest. |
3ad85aea-1, 3ad85aea-2 and on | The game's own rolling copies of earlier saves. |
Every Enshrouded dedicated server uses the same name, 3ad85aea, for its world. Leave these files alone while the server is running.
How the world saves
Enshrouded saves the world by itself:
- every 5 minutes
- when a player leaves
- when you press Stop or Restart: the console prints
[PYW] Stopping: saving the world first., thenWorld saved., then[PYW] Server stopped.
Each save shows in the Console as World saved.
If players have been on for 20 minutes and the world hasn't saved, a note appears at the top of your server's page: Your world hasn't saved lately. You also get an email if crash emails are on in the Settings tab. A restart saves the world on the way down and usually gets saving going again, so pick a quiet moment and press Restart.
Bring your world from the game
If your group has been playing in someone's own game, you can carry on in that same world on your server.
1. Find the world on the PC that hosted it. Open Saved Games\Enshrouded in File Explorer (paste %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Enshrouded into the address bar). If your saves are kept in Steam Cloud, look in Steam\userdata\<your Steam id>\1203620\remote instead. Each world is a set of files named after an eight-character code, such as 5c2f81d0, 5c2f81d0-index and 5c2f81d0-1.
2. Zip one world. Select the file named just with the code and every file that starts with that code, then right-click and choose Compress to ZIP file (on Windows 10, Send to then Compressed (zipped) folder). A zip of the whole folder works too, as long as it holds only one world.
3. Stop your server, then open the World Import tab and drop the zip on it. It uploads straight to your server; for a zip over 100 MB, use SFTP and press Rescan.
4. Import it. Pick the zip in the list, press Import selected world, read the warning and press Import world.
5. Start the server and join as usual.
The import puts your world in place under the server's world name, 3ad85aea, so the server loads it. The world that was on the server before is moved into a dated folder in savegame, named like pre-import-2026-10-11T09-30-00-000Z. It is never deleted.
The import refuses a zip that holds no world, or more than one, and says which. Your zip goes back into the list, so you only need to make a new one, not upload again.
Start a new world
For a new playthrough:
- Stop the server.
- Open the World Import tab and scroll to Start a new world.
- Press Start a new world and confirm.
- Start the server. It makes a brand-new world.
Before it clears anything, the server takes a backup when your backup slots allow. Either way, the old world is moved into a dated folder in savegame, named like fresh-start-2026-10-11T09-30-00-000Z.
Get an old world back
Every world the server put aside is still in savegame, in its pre-import-... or fresh-start-... folder. To bring one back:
- Stop the server.
- In the Files tab, open
savegame. Move the current3ad85aeafiles into a new folder of their own, so nothing is lost. - Open the dated folder you want and move its
3ad85aeafiles back intosavegame. - Start the server.
A backup from the Backups tab works too: restoring one puts your whole server back as it was, world included.
Keep disk space in check
Each kept folder holds a full copy of a world. When you are sure you don't need an old one, delete its dated folder in the Files tab to free the space.
