EnshroudedFiles & Backups
Download your Enshrouded world to your PC
Stop your Enshrouded server, download its world file from File Manager and find where the game keeps local worlds on your PC to play it in singleplayer.
Your Enshrouded server keeps its world in one file, and you can take a copy of it home to play on your own PC. This guide covers downloading that file from the panel and where the game keeps its local worlds on your computer. It is the reverse of bringing a world in with World Import, and it is written for a PC (Steam) server and a Windows PC.
What you are downloading
The server keeps its world in the savegame folder, as the file world0.ksd. Only the world lives on the server. Keen Games says character progression is stored on each player's PC and not on the dedicated server, so your character is already on your computer and the world is the only piece you need.
Next to world0.ksd, the backup folder holds the game's own rolling copies of earlier saves, named world0.ksd.backup-0 to world0.ksd.backup-9. You don't need them for singleplayer: world0.ksd is the current world.
Download the world
- Open your server's Console and press Stop. A running server saves
world0.ksdoften (on our own idle test server it saved every 30 seconds), so stopping it first means the file can't change while you download it. Stop waits for the next save, up to 35 seconds, so the file holds your latest progress. - Open File Manager and go into the
savegamefolder. - Select
world0.ksdand choose Download. Right-clicking the file shows the same option, and your browser downloads it.
The download leaves the server's world exactly as it was. Press Start whenever you want your players back on.
The Backups tab can download a backup too, but a backup holds the server's files as well as the world, so File Manager is the quicker way to get just the world. To keep a safe copy on the server first, see create and restore backups.
Where Enshrouded keeps worlds on your PC
Since Enshrouded 1.0, Keen Games lists the folder for locally stored saves as C:\Users\<your Windows user name>\Saved Games\keen games\Enshrouded\default. If you keep your saves in Steam Cloud instead, the world selection menu shows them on a separate tab from the local folder, so check the right tab when you go looking for a world.
Close Enshrouded and copy the whole default folder somewhere safe (a zip is fine) before you add anything to it. Copying a file into a folder can replace a file there with the same name.
Open it in the game
- With Enshrouded closed, copy
world0.ksdinto thedefaultfolder. - Start Enshrouded and open the world selection menu.
- Choose the tab for the local save game folder, not the Steam Cloud one, and pick the world.
Going back to the server
The copy on your PC is separate from the server's world. Anything you build in singleplayer stays on your PC, and the server's world carries on unchanged. To move your PC version back to the server later, zip the .ksd file, stop the server and import the zip with the World Import tab, as the worlds and saves guide shows. The import moves the server's current world, with its backup folder, into a dated folder in savegame named like pre-import-2026-10-11T09-30-00-000Z and never deletes it, so the server's version is still there if you change your mind.
