Terraria Transformation Mounts Guide

Terraria 1.4.5 added four transformation mounts. Each one turns your character into something else for as long as you stay in the form. This guide covers the four, what they do and, going by the official wiki, where to get each.

The four new mounts

Re-Logic's 1.4.5 notes say they "Added four new transformation mounts", with the headline "New Transformations - Bat, Rat, and More!". Re-Logic's notes name the Bat, the Rat and the Velociraptor, and a hotfix mentions Enchanted Pixie Dust, which makes the four. The sources and behaviour below come from the official Terraria wiki's page for each item. You use the item to transform, so you are not riding a creature but becoming it. The wiki says the Wolf, from Lilith's Necklace, is an older transformation from 1.4.4 and isn't one of the four.

Velociraptor: Slasher's Mysterious Skull

• Where from: the wiki gives a crafting recipe at an Iron Anvil or Lead Anvil, using Sturdy Fossil, Amber and Fallen Stars.
• What it does: per the wiki, you can use wings in this form and still swing weapons, drink potions and use hooks. It also reduces fall damage.
• Notable: since 1.4.5.6 the Soaring Insignia's unlimited flight also works with the Velociraptor mount.

Rat: Cursed Piper Flute

• Where from: Ivy Chests in the Underground Jungle.
• What it does: the Rat has a small hitbox that fits through gaps one tile wide. The wiki says it can climb, takes less fall damage and squeaks when hurt. Using an item ends the form.

Bat: Amulet of the Night

• Where from: the wiki lists it as a Hardmode item. Vampires drop it during a Solar Eclipse, and it appears in naturally generated chests in the Vampirism secret seed. See How to play as a vampire in Terraria.
• What it does: infinite flight. If you equip a dash accessory, it works in bat form. Using or placing an item, being submerged or getting the Wet debuff pulls you out of the form.

Pixie: Enchanted Pixie Dust

• Where from: the wiki says Pixies drop it, but only after you have defeated a mechanical boss, so it is a Hardmode item.
• What it does: infinite flight, a light around you, and a small body that fits through one-tile gaps. You can use a dash accessory, but you can't use other items. Trying to use one dismounts you.

Fixes to know about

The 1.4.5 hotfixes tidied several transformations. The Pixie's position now works correctly with Finches and with Yoraiz0r's Spell, and the notes list fixes for duplication glitches involving transformation mounts. If a mount behaves oddly, update the game first.
