Play as a Vampire in Terraria

Start Terraria's Vampirism secret seed, survive the sun, and use the Vampire vanity set and Amulet of the Night bat mount.

Updated 4 min read

Terraria 1.4.5 lets you play as a vampire. It is not a class or a mod. It is a secret world seed that turns your character into a vampire, and the sun becomes your enemy. This guide covers how to start the seed, how the sun hazard works, and the vanity set and bat mount that suit the theme.

Checked against Terraria 1.4.5.8 on PC, October 2026.

Start the Vampirism seed

The seed is a secret seed. The official Terraria wiki says you discover a secret seed by entering its code in the seed field on the world creation menu. The code is:

what a horrible night to have a curse

The wiki notes that spacing, capitalisation and special characters in a seed code are ignored. Re-Logic announced the seed in the 1.4.5 launch post with the line "How about becoming a vampire?" and a caption that says vampires "would be wise to avoid the sun at all costs".

Once you have entered the code, the seed is unlocked. Since 1.4.5.4, unlocked secret seeds are switched on from a Secret Seed button on the world creation screen. A seed only applies when a world is created, so it won't change a world you already have.

Playing on your own server

Make the vampire world on your PC, in Terraria 1.4.5 or later, and then move it onto the server. Typing the seed into the Worlds tab's New world box does not work: in our test on 30 October 2026 the server ignored the seed and built a world with a random one each time.

  1. On your PC, create a world and enter the code above in the seed field.
  2. Find the finished .wld file and upload it with the panel's World Import tab. Upload a Terraria world to your server has every step, including where the file lives and the file name rules.
  3. Everyone then joins as normal. See How to join your Terraria server.

How the sun hazard works

Re-Logic's own line is to avoid the sun at all costs. The official Terraria wiki gives the detail. The player is scorched after a short time in sunlight, and that only happens above ground, during the day. Rain, a Solar Eclipse, a Graveyard and a Glowing Mushroom biome all count as cover, and your spawn point starts underground.

Per the wiki, scorching applies the Cursed, Slow and On Fire! debuffs, and the fire does far more damage than normal. While you are scorched you can't use mounts, wings or Rocket Boots. Touching any liquid, or holding an Umbrella or Tragic Umbrella, stops the scorching.

Warning

On a vampire world, daylight is dangerous. Dig down and work underground at first, and travel on the surface only at night.

The Vampire vanity set

The wiki lists the Vampire set as the Vampire Mask, Vampire Shirt and Vampire Pants. It is vanity only, so it changes your appearance and nothing else. Wear it in the social slots. The wiki says Goodie Bags that drop during the Halloween event can contain it, and chests in the Vampirism seed can hold it too.

Fly as a bat

Re-Logic's 1.4.5 notes added Bat as one of the new transformations. The wiki says the Amulet of the Night is the Hardmode item that turns you into a bat with infinite flight. Vampires drop it during a Solar Eclipse, and it also turns up in naturally generated chests in the Vampirism seed. Using or placing an item, or touching liquid, pulls you out of bat form.

The mount guide Terraria transformation mounts covers the Amulet and the other new 1.4.5 transformations.
