Start a Skyblock server with IridiumSkyblock
Install IridiumSkyblock and Vault on Paper, create the first island, learn the player commands and check the config settings before launch.
IridiumSkyblock's own page says Skyblock began in 2011 as a challenge map: a small cube of dirt with a single tree and a chest of supplies, and you survive on what you have. IridiumSkyblock is a plugin that runs it on a Paper server, with island teams, missions, a shop, upgrades and boosters, a bank and a top list. This guide installs it with the one plugin it needs, creates the first island and covers the settings worth checking before players arrive.
Checked against IridiumSkyblock 4.1.5 on Paper 26.2, October 2026. That is the newest release, and its notes add support for 26.1.2 and 26.2.
What you need
- A Paper or Purpur server. The Modrinth page lists Paper, Purpur and Spigot. In JAR Manager (under More in the left rail) pick Paper and Minecraft 26.2, then press Apply change (Change your Minecraft version or mod loader). Take a backup first, because a software change reinstalls the server.
- Vault. The plugin declares it as a required dependency and will not load without it. Modrinth lists no dependencies for IridiumSkyblock, so the store does not offer it and you install it yourself. VaultUnlocked is a maintained fork of Vault whose plugin name is also
Vault(Set up Vault on your Minecraft server). - An economy plugin, if you want money. The README says features are limited without one. EssentialsX has one built in (Set up EssentialsX on your Minecraft server).
- WorldEdit is optional. See the paster setting below.
Install the plugins
- Open Plugins in the Content group of the left rail. Leave Modrinth selected.
- Search for
VaultUnlockedand press Install. - Search for
IridiumSkyblockand press Install. - Open the Console tab and press Restart, or Start if the server is stopped.
- Type
plugins. Both should be listed.
On first start IridiumSkyblock creates three worlds named IridiumSkyblock, IridiumSkyblock_nether and IridiumSkyblock_the_end, and its settings in plugins/IridiumSkyblock. Each file is YAML and named after what it holds, such as configuration.yml, missions.yml, shop.yml and messages.yml. Island data goes to SQLite by default (driver in sql.yml), which suits a plan without MySQL databases.
Make the first island
Players run /is create, or just /is, which runs the create command for a player with no island and opens the island menu for one who has an island. /island and /iridiumskyblock work the same way. /is home takes them back to their island. Make yourself an operator first, in Players under Operators with Make operator, so you can test.
Other player commands from the plugin's code:
/is missions,/is shop,/is upgradesand/is boosters/is topfor the ranking,/is visitto visit islands,/is levelfor the island level/is invite <player>,/is trust <player>and/is kick <player>for teams/is regen <schematic>to rebuild an island,/is biomes <biome>and/is border <color>
/is reload reloads the plugin's configurations and needs the permission iridiumskyblock.reload.
Check these settings
Stop the server, then open plugins/IridiumSkyblock/configuration.yml in File Manager.
pasterisworldeditby default. Without WorldEdit installed, the console warns that the selected paster is not available and the plugin falls back to its built-ininternalAsyncpaster. Either install WorldEdit (Set up WorldEdit on your Minecraft server) or setpaster: internalAsyncto silence the warning.distanceis151, the spacing between islands.netherUnlockLevelis10andendUnlockLevelis20, the unlock levels for the Nether and the End.islandCreationCostisfalse, so creating an island is free.allowPvPOnIslandsisfalse.
If something does not work
- IridiumSkyblock does not load. Vault is missing. Install it and restart.
- The console warns about a paster. See the
pastersetting above. /is createdoes nothing. Read the Console for errors from start-up, and check the plugin is on the Minecraft versions its Modrinth page lists.- Players cannot do something on their island. The owner can change what each rank may do with
/is permissions.
