Set up an MC Eternal server
Install the MC Eternal Forge 1.12.2 pack from the Modpacks tab, learn which file the server uses, and get players on a matching client.
MC Eternal is a "kitchen sink" Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2, made by adam98991. Its CurseForge page lists quests, magic, tech and exploration, and the author describes hundreds of quests, Tinkers Construct materials, MineColonies towns and a custom Moon dimension. This guide installs it from the Modpacks tab and covers which file you get and what your players need.
Checked against MC Eternal 1.6.2.2 server files and the 1.6.2.3 client on Minecraft 1.12.2 (Forge), October 2026.
What it needs
- Forge on Minecraft 1.12.2. The pack's manifest names Forge 14.23.5.2860. The panel picks Java 8 for 1.12.2 and switches it for you.
- RAM. The CurseForge page asks for at least 5.5 GB for a server and recommends 8 GB or more. Pick a plan with 8 GB or more on Minecraft hosting. How much RAM a Minecraft server needs explains how that is used.
- Disk space. The server download is about 0.7 GB and unpacks to about the same again, so leave room for both.
- The right pack. The same author publishes MC Eternal 2, MC Eternal Lite and MC Eternal Hardcore as separate packs. This guide is for the original, called MC Eternal.
Which file you get
Open the pack's file list on CurseForge and you will see two kinds of file. The newest releases, 1.6.2.3 and the 1.6.3.1 beta, are client files only. The newest file with a ready-made server download is 1.6.2.2.
With the version drop-down in the install window left on Newest that fits your server (or with no drop-down shown), the panel takes the newest file that has a server download, which is 1.6.2.2. A default install left a MCE_1.6.2.2_Server folder on the server and launched forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2860.jar. The author states that 1.6.2.2 servers are compatible with 1.6.2.3 clients, and that 1.6.2.3 is fully compatible with 1.6.2.2. So players can run the current 1.6.2.3 client against a 1.6.2.2 server.
Install it on your server
Installing a modpack reinstalls the whole server and replaces the current world, so use a new server or one you can wipe.
- Open Backups and click Create backup.
- Open Modpacks, under Content in the left rail. Press the CurseForge source button.
- Search for
MC Eternaland find the row named MC Eternal by adam98991. Check the name carefully, because MC Eternal 2 and MC Eternal Lite appear beside it. - Click Install. A window titled Install MC Eternal? opens.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to start by itself. If an I agree to the Minecraft EULA box appears, tick it once you have read the EULA.
- Press and hold the Hold to Install and reinstall button for about three seconds, until it fills, then watch the Console tab. The download is large, so allow time. The log ends with a Ready step.
The server download keeps all its files inside one folder with its own Forge jar and a Windows launch file. The panel unpacks the folder to the server's root and writes its own start script, so you never run the pack's LaunchServer.bat. The memory in that file is not used either, because the panel sizes Java from your plan's RAM.
If you choose 1.6.2.3 in that drop-down, that file has no server download, so the panel builds the server from the pack's mod list. In 1.6.2.3, seven mods had no direct download from CurseForge when checked. The install window lists any such mods before you start, and Modpack mods to download from CurseForge shows what to do.
First start
Press Start on the Console tab and accept the Minecraft EULA if the window appears. Wait until the console stops printing and the server shows as running. Your address is in the left rail under Server address: Connect to your server for the first time.
The pack's server.properties sets level-type=BIOMESOP. In the Config Editor, leave World type alone. Open Operators in the Players tab or run op yourname in the Console to give yourself commands.
Join the server
- In the CurseForge app, install MC Eternal and pick version 1.6.2.3, or 1.6.2.2.
- Add your server in the multiplayer list with the address from the left rail.
Common problems
- The client crashes on start. The author's 1.6.2.3 notes say the update to SerializationIsBad 1.5.2 solves a common client startup crash. Update the client.
- Players cannot join. Check they use 1.6.2.2 or 1.6.2.3, the versions the author says match a 1.6.2.2 server.
- The server runs out of memory. Watch the RAM card on the Console tab, and see Why is my server lagging.
Installing a modpack replaces the server's current files. Take a backup first.
