Set up a Karmaland 5 server
Install the Karmaland 5 (Unofficial) NeoForge pack for Minecraft 1.21.1 from the Modpacks tab with CurseForge's server pack, then start it.
Karmaland 5 (Unofficial) is a fan-made modpack by TeamLUP that gathers the mods from the Karmaland 5 series. Its CurseForge page describes biomes, animals, enemies, structures, emotes and utilities, new and dangerous bosses, and plenty of multiplayer mods, and calls it an ideal pack to play with friends. This guide installs its newest edition, a NeoForge pack for Minecraft 1.21.1, from the Modpacks tab using the pack's own server files.
Checked against Karmaland 5 (Unofficial) 21.0.0 on NeoForge 21.1.252 and Minecraft 1.21.1, October 2026.
What the pack needs
- Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge 21.1.252. The server pack's
variables.txtnames both, and the panel installs that NeoForge build for you. For Minecraft 1.21.1 the panel runs Java 21 on its own. - Memory. The pack page recommends a minimum of 8 GB of RAM for a server, and more with many players. Your plan sets the RAM, so see how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and the Minecraft plans.
- Disk space. The server pack is a download of about 528 MB and unpacks to about 586 MB. The download sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both.
- The same pack version for players. This guide installs 21.0.0, released on 28 September 2026. Players need that version in the CurseForge app.
Install the server files
Installing a modpack reinstalls the server and replaces the current world, so use a new server or one you can wipe.
- Open Backups under Essentials and press Create backup if the server holds anything you want to keep.
- Open Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
- Press the CurseForge source button, then search for
Karmaland 5. Several packs share the Karmaland name, so check the row for Karmaland 5 (Unofficial) by TeamLUP. - Press Install on that row. The popup says it reinstalls your server and names NeoForge and Minecraft 1.21.1.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want the server to start itself, and tick I agree to the Minecraft EULA if the popup shows it.
- Press and hold Hold to Install and reinstall until it fills, then watch the Console tab until the install log reports Pack installed.
First start
Press Start on the Console tab. The server pack carries no eula.txt, so unless you accepted the EULA in the install popup or earlier on this server, the panel opens Accept the Minecraft EULA first. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type.
The server pack has no server.properties, so the install writes a short one and Minecraft fills in the rest on that first start. Your address is in the left rail under Server address, and Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft.
The server pack ships 29 mods with .disabled added to their file names. Sodium and Iris are among them, and both are client-side mods. Leave those alone: the pack's authors switched them off in the server files.
Voice chat
The pack includes Simple Voice Chat 2.6.22. Its shipped config/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties says audio travels over UDP on port=24454, separate from the game server's port, and that sharing the game port is strongly discouraged. If your plan includes extra ports, add one under Settings then Network ports, set port in that file to the new number and restart. How to add an extra port explains the card.
Other editions
The pack page says the full version is the one played on Minecraft 1.18.2, and that the editions updated to newer Minecraft versions do not contain all of its mods. The project also has separate files for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge. These files are a separate edition, so players need the edition the server runs.
Common problems
- A player cannot join. They need Karmaland 5 (Unofficial) 21.0.0 on Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge.
- The server lags or runs out of memory. Watch the RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail, lower View distance (chunks) and Simulation distance (chunks) in Config Editor under Performance, and move to a bigger plan if the RAM card stays full. Why is my server lagging has more.
- The install stops while unpacking. Your plan's disk may be too small. Check Disk Analyser, clear space and install again. Server out of disk space shows how.
- The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
Installing a pack replaces the server's current files and world. Keep Take a backup first ticked.
