Set up a MYTHCRAFT 5 server
Install the MYTHCRAFT 5 modpack on NeoForge 1.21.1 from the Modpacks tab, add the one CurseForge-only mod the popup asks for and start the server.
MYTHCRAFT 5 is a NeoForge modpack for Minecraft 1.21.1 by the CurseForge author ReviloDev, about exploration, quests, loot and progression. Its page lists over a thousand structures, a central questline, a rune system in place of vanilla enchanting, 12 new weapon types and 25 artifacts. You install it from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's CurseForge files.
Checked against MYTHCRAFT 5 | Update 8.1 on NeoForge 21.1.264 and Minecraft 1.21.1, October 2026.
What the pack needs
- Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge. The panel installs the NeoForge build the pack names, 21.1.264 for Update 8.1. Minecraft 1.21.1 runs on Java 21, which the panel picks for you.
- Memory. The CurseForge page gives no RAM figure. On our 8 GB test servers the RAM card on the Console tab read about 3.5 to 3.6 GB with nobody online. See how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and the Minecraft plans.
- CurseForge, not Modrinth. A MYTHCRAFT page exists on Modrinth, but its own text says the pack is actively updated on CurseForge, because Modrinth's moderation rules do not allow key mods in it.
- The right pack. Searches also show MYTHCRAFT 6 by the same author. This guide covers MYTHCRAFT 5.
Install the server
Installing a modpack reinstalls the whole server and replaces the current world, so use a new server or one you can wipe.
- Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
- Press the CurseForge chip in the source chip row at the top of the tab, then search for
MYTHCRAFT 5. - Press Install on the row named MYTHCRAFT 5 by ReviloDev. A popup titled Install MYTHCRAFT 5? opens and names NeoForge and Minecraft 1.21.1.
- Leave the version list at the top of the popup on Newest that fits your server. It installed MYTHCRAFT 5 | Update 8.1 when this guide was checked.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to start itself. If you do and your server has not accepted the Minecraft EULA yet, tick I agree to the Minecraft EULA too.
- The popup reads One mod needs you to download it first: Fortunate Netherite. Its author only allows downloads from CurseForge's own site. Press Download from CurseForge beside it, then drop the
.jarfile on the popup. It then reads Added, and the heading changes to Every mod is ready to go in. Modpack mods to download from CurseForge walks through it. - Hold Install and reinstall until it fills. The install downloads the pack's mods one by one; on our test server it took three to four minutes.
Client-only mods
Some of the pack's mods only run on players' computers. The install turns those off by renaming each jar to end in .disabled; on our test install of Update 8.1 that was 34 of 235 mods, including Iris and Controlling. Open Mods under Content and choose Installed to see them with a Disabled badge. Leave them off on the server.
First start
If you ticked Start the server when it's ready, the server starts by itself once the install finishes. Otherwise press Start on the Console tab, and accept the Minecraft EULA if the panel asks. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type. Your address is in the left rail. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft, and joining a modded server from a launcher covers the client side.
Players install MYTHCRAFT 5 | Update 8.1 too, the same file as the server, from the pack's file list on CurseForge.
To give yourself commands, make yourself an operator in the Players tab (whitelist players and set operators).
Changing update later
A pack that is installed reads Installed in the search results, so you cannot install another of its files over it. Press Remove modpack on the Modpacks tab, keep Take a backup first ticked and choose NeoForge and 1.21.1 in the popup, then install the file you want, picking it in the popup's version list.
Common problems
- The install says "Couldn't start a backup. Free a backup slot, or untick the backup and try again." Delete a backup you no longer need under Backups (a protected backup has to be unprotected first), or untick Take a backup first if you already have one, such as the Pre-switch backup. Then try the install again.
- The server stops with an out-of-memory error. Move to a bigger plan with Change plan in the Settings tab.
- The server stops before it finishes starting for another reason. Read the first error in the Console. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
Installing a modpack replaces the server's current files. Keep Take a backup first ticked if you may want your old world back.
