Add an extra port to your server
Add or release an extra port in Settings for web maps, voice mods or RCON tools, and see how your plan's limit counts them.
Players join your server on its main port, and you never need to open it. Some tools need a port of their own, though: a web map plugin, a voice mod, or an admin tool that talks to the server remotely. Your plan can include a few extra ports for this, and you add or release them yourself in Settings.
Find the Network ports card
- In the left rail, open More and choose Settings.
- Scroll to the Connections heading. The Network ports card is the first one.
The card's subtitle tells you where you stand. It reads, for example, "1 of 2 extra used" with the slots left, or "Your plan doesn't include extra ports." when your plan has none. Each row below shows an address and port with a copy button and a badge:
Add a port
- Select Add port.
- The new port appears in the list with the Extra badge. Use its copy button to take the address and port.
You can't pick the number: ports are assigned from our shared range, so the one you receive may be any free one. Only the server owner sees Add port. Team members who can open Settings see the list but can't change it.
The ports we attached for the game itself count towards the plan's total, so a game that needs two ports to run may leave fewer slots free.
Point your tool at it
An added port is only reserved. Nothing listens on it until you set the tool or plugin to use that number, in the tool's own config file. Which setting that is depends on the tool, so check its documentation.
On Minecraft, the card suggests plugin web maps such as Dynmap and BlueMap, and voice mods, each of which needs its own port. If you want RCON or Query reachable from outside, add a port first and then match the number in server.properties (Minecraft server.properties explained).
Some games get their own extra ports when the server is created, shown with the Game port badge, so there is nothing to add for them. Project Zomboid has a second UDP port. ARK has the port after the game port, and ARK: Survival Evolved also a query port. Rust has its query port and its Rust+ app port. RuneScape: Dragonwilds has a beacon port, and Satisfactory has a reliable port.
Never change server-port or server-ip in server.properties to use an extra port. The panel rewrites both from your primary port on every start.
Release a port
Select Release on the row, then confirm in the Release port box. Anything still using that port, such as an RCON tool or a web map, stops working on it. The slot goes back to your plan's total, and you can add another.
If Add port is greyed out
Hover the button. When every slot is used, it explains "Port limit reached - release one to free a slot". Release one you no longer use, or move to a plan with more (How to upgrade or downgrade your plan). A plan change does not touch your files or settings.
