Claim a free server address
Claim a name under servers.playyourway.com.au so players can join without typing an IP, then change or release it any time.
A free server address is a short name players can type in place of your server's numbers. Instead of an IP address and a port, they join with something like myserver.servers.playyourway.com.au. It costs nothing, you can change it whenever you like, and it works on most games.
Claim an address
- In the left rail, open More and choose Settings.
- Under Identity, find the Server address card.
- Type a name into the box. It sits in front of
.servers.playyourway.com.au, and a counter shows how much of the 30 characters you have used. - Wait a moment for the check under the box. It either says the full address is available or tells you why it is not.
- Select Claim.
A name has to be 3 to 30 characters long. Use lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, with no hyphen at the start or end. Names that look like our own services, such as admin or support, are reserved, and a name already used by another server is refused with "That address is already taken."
Changes take a few minutes to reach players, so test the address before you post it in a group chat.
Share it
Once it is claimed, the address replaces the IP in the left rail, with a copy button beside it. What players type depends on the game:
- Minecraft: Java Edition. The bare address is enough, with no port. We add a record that sends Java players to the right port for you.
- Other games. Players still add the port after the address, as
address:port. The rail shows the whole line, so copy it from there (Satisfactory shows the address and port as two separate boxes). The card itself says "Some games still need the port from your dashboard."
Dragonwilds is the exception: its Direct join box takes an IP only, so the Server address card does not appear for that game.
Change or release it
Select Change to type a new name, then Save. The old name stops working and becomes free for anyone to claim. Select Release to remove the address altogether. A box titled Release address warns that players can no longer join with it and the name becomes available to others. Anyone with the old address saved will need the new one, or your IP and port.
Only the server owner can claim, change or release the address. Team members can see and copy it.
If the address stops working
The panel checks that the address's DNS record still exists when you open Settings. If one had gone missing, it puts it back and shows "Address restored", and the address works again after a few minutes. If it can't, a red box says "Something went wrong with this address". Select Try again, or set the address again.
If players can't connect even though the address looks right, work through Can't connect to your server? Fix it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use my own domain name?
The panel gives out names under servers.playyourway.com.au only.
Is the address the same as my server's name?
No. The server name is a label for your dashboard that players never see (How to rename your server). The address is what players type to join.
Do I need the address to play with friends?
No. The IP and port in the left rail work without one. The address is a convenience that is easier to read out and remember.
Pick a name you will still like in a year. Players who saved the old address need the new one when you change it.
