Set up a BigChadGuys Plus server

BigChadGuys Plus is a Fabric modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1. Its Modrinth page describes a cosy Cobblemon adventure, Stardew Valley meets Pokémon, with Terralith world generation, a quest system and a shop and selling-bin economy. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's Modrinth download.

Checked against BigChadGuys Plus 2.11.0 from Modrinth (15 November 2024) on Fabric Loader 0.16.9 and Minecraft 1.20.1, October 2026. The CurseForge listing is at 2.16.6 (14 October 2026), a much newer build that this guide does not install.

What the pack needs

• Minecraft 1.20.1 with Fabric Loader 0.16.9. The pack file names both, and the install sets them up. The panel picks Java 17 for Minecraft 1.20.1 on its own.
• Memory. The pack's page recommends 6 GB to 8 GB of RAM. Your plan sets the RAM, so read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and check the Minecraft plans first.
• Disk space. The pack's files total about 550 MB to download, and the world grows on top of that.
• The same pack for players. This guide installs 2.11.0, the newest release on the pack's Modrinth page, which was last updated on 15 November 2024. The CurseForge listing is at 2.16.6 (14 October 2026), so players on the CurseForge app would get a different build from the server. Players need to install version 2.11.0 from the Modrinth page instead.

Install the server files

1. Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
2. Press the Modrinth source button, then search for BigChadGuys Plus.
3. The Modrinth list starts filtered to your server's current Minecraft version and loader, shown as filter chips. The pack is listed for Fabric and Minecraft 1.20.1 only, so unless your server already runs those, remove the chips with their X (a server with no detected loader shows only a version chip), or press Show every version if the list says "No modpacks found".
4. Press Install on BigChadGuys Plus.
5. The popup says it reinstalls your server with the pack and names Fabric and Minecraft 1.20.1.
6. Leave Take a backup first ticked. Your current world is replaced by the pack's. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to start itself, and tick I agree to the Minecraft EULA if the popup shows it.
7. Hold Install and reinstall until it fills, then wait for the install to finish.

First start

Press Start on the Console tab. If the EULA has not been accepted yet, the panel asks you to accept it first. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type. Your address is in the left rail under Server address. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft.

The pack's file list marks all 272 of its files as required on the server, including client-side mods such as Sodium and Iris. The install checks every mod and turns off the ones that only run on a player's computer, unless a mod that stays on needs them, by renaming each to end in .disabled. If the first start still crashes and the crash report names a client-side mod, open Mods, switch to Installed and press Disable on it, then start again.

Voice chat

The pack includes Simple Voice Chat 2.5.25. Its shipped config/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties says audio travels over UDP on port=24454, separate from the game server's port, and that sharing the game port is strongly discouraged. If your plan includes extra ports, add one under Settings then Network ports, set port in that file to the new number and restart. How to add an extra port explains the card.

Tune it for a server

• Lower the view distance if the server struggles. Open Config Editor, go to Performance, change View distance (chunks), press Save changes and restart.
• Watch the cards. The RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail show whether the plan is keeping up. Why is my server lagging has more.

Common problems

• A player cannot join. Check they run BigChadGuys Plus 2.11.0 from Modrinth on Fabric 1.20.1, not the newer CurseForge build.
• The install says it could not install the pack. The console shows the reason. Check the version and loader in the popup, then try again.
• The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
