Set up a Prominence II modpack server

Install the Prominence II: Hasturian Era Fabric 1.20.1 modpack from the Modrinth source of the Modpacks tab, and why to skip CurseForge's server pack.

Updated 6 min read

Prominence II: Hasturian Era is a Fabric modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1 from ElocinDev and Cinderstone Studios. It is a story-driven RPG pack: its pages list two campaigns, a custom talent tree, voiced NPCs and a capital city called the Kingdom of Vaaz. This guide installs it from the Modpacks tab using the Modrinth source, not CurseForge.

Checked against Prominence II: Hasturian Era 4.1.5hf (the Modrinth version of 23 October 2026) on Fabric Loader 0.19.3 and Minecraft 1.20.1, October 2026.

Why Modrinth and not CurseForge

The pack is on both. Its CurseForge server pack is a zip that holds a second zip, and the pack's own readme.txt says to unzip it and import the inner one. The Modpacks tab unpacks only the outer zip, so a CurseForge install would never find the pack's mods folder. The Modrinth version is a single .mrpack file that the tab installs directly.

What the pack needs

  • Minecraft 1.20.1 with Fabric. The install sets up Fabric Loader 0.19.3, and the panel switches Java for you, which is Java 17 for this version.
  • Memory. The Modrinth page gives no figure. On our test server the pack loaded 544 mods and the panel read 7.3 GB of the plan's 8 GB at boot, so 8 GB is the smallest plan we have tested it on. Read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and check the Minecraft plans before you install.
  • Disk space. The .mrpack is a download of about 428 MB, and it is kept until the install ends. Right after the first boot on our test server the panel read 1.94 GB used, and the Disk Analyser tab read 2.21 GB, with the mods at 1.19 GB, the config at 449 MB and the world at 406.5 MB. The world grows as players explore, so leave plenty of room. The Disk Analyser tab shows what is using space.
  • The same pack version for players. With Newest that fits your server the install picked 4.1.5hf, and its first console step names the version (Pack version 4.1.5hf). Players should run that version from the Modrinth app.

Install the server files

  1. Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
  2. Keep the Modrinth chip selected in the source chip row at the top of the tab and search for Prominence. If the tab starts with chips for your server's current Minecraft version and loader, they can hide this pack. Remove them, or press Show every version if the list is empty.
  3. Press Install on Prominenceā„¢ II: Hasturian Era by ElocinDev. A Chinese edition from the same author appears beside it.
  4. The popup says it reinstalls your server with the pack and names Fabric and Minecraft 1.20.1. If it offers Release channel, leave it on Stable, and leave Pack version on Newest that fits your server.
  5. Leave Take a backup first ticked, because your current world is replaced by the pack's. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to start itself, and tick I agree to the Minecraft EULA if the popup shows it.
  6. Hold Install and reinstall until it fills, then wait for the install to finish. On our test server it took about two and a half minutes.

Client-only mods turn themselves off

The pack's mods include many that only run on players' computers, such as visual and interface mods. The install puts every mod in the mods folder, then renames the client-only ones to end in .disabled so the server does not load them. You do not need to delete anything by hand. The console shows a step such as 103 client-only mod(s) turned off, and a second line such as 5 client-side mod(s) kept on because a server mod requires them. The kept ones stay on because a server mod needs them: modmenu stays on for Forge Config Screens, for example.

Open the Mods tab to see the turned-off mods: each one carries a Disabled badge and an Enable button. Leave them off. The Last install log button on the pack's card in the Modpacks tab lists the kept ones as client-mods: kept <jar>, needed by <mod>.

First start

Press Start on the Console tab. If the EULA has not been accepted yet, the panel asks you to accept it first. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type, which on our test server was Done (62.762s)! For help, type "help". Your address is in the left rail under Server address. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft.

Before you update

Version 4.1.5 removed the Bumblezone and Deeper and Darker mods. Every block from those mods, and their dimensions, is gone once a server updates to it, and the changelog says items still in those dimensions cannot be retrieved. Take a backup from the Backups tab before you update an older server, and warn your players. The same changelog says players' game options reset on that update.

Common problems

  • The pack is missing from the list. The version and loader chips are hiding it. Remove them or press Show every version.
  • The install says "Couldn't start a backup". Every backup slot on your plan is full of protected backups. Open the Backups tab, remove the protection from one or delete one, then try again.
  • The install stops with "Couldn't install this Modrinth modpack". The pack has no build the server can install, or Modrinth could not be reached. Check what is using space in the Disk Analyser tab, free some in File Manager if the disk is nearly full, then try again. Compare the Minecraft plans if you need more room.
  • A player cannot join. Check they run the same Prominence II version the install named, on Minecraft 1.20.1 with Fabric.
  • The server lags. Watch the RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail. Why is my server lagging has more.
Warning

Installing a pack reinstalls your server. If you have a world you care about, keep Take a backup first ticked.
