Use the ZLevels Remastered Plugin on Rust

Install ZLevels Remastered on a Rust server: the six skills, player commands, the permissions, admin commands like zl.lvl and the settings to check first.

Updated 4 min read

ZLevels Remastered turns gathering, crafting and fishing into a levelling system. Players earn XP in six skills, and each level adds a bonus: more materials per hit, faster crafting or an extra fish. This guide covers installing it on a Rust server, what the six skills are, the permissions, the admin commands and the settings that matter first.

Checked against ZLevels Remastered 3.3.1 by nivex on uMod (released 10 September 2026), October 2026. uMod lists it as allowing players to level up skills; the plugin's own description reads "Lets players level up as they harvest resources, fish, and craft". It compiled and loaded on our Carbon test server (Carbon 2.0.262, Rust build 2635).

Install it

Open the Plugins tab, search the Store for ZLevelsRemastered and press Install. How to install Oxide/uMod plugins on your Rust server covers the tab, Oxide and Carbon.

On Oxide, a newly installed plugin stays unloaded until you restart the server or type oxide.load ZLevelsRemastered in the Console. On Carbon it loads by itself within seconds, and the commands are c.load, c.unload and c.reload. The oxide.* commands, oxide.grant included, print nothing and do nothing on Carbon. Permissions only exist once the plugin has loaded, so grant them afterwards.

The skills

There are six: Acquire, Crafting, Mining, Skinning, Woodcutting and Fishing. Each can be switched off in the config. A player sees them with /stats, and /statinfo explains what each one gives: XP per hit and the bonus per level, the extra-fish chance for Fishing, and the crafting-time reduction per level for Crafting.

Player commands

  • /stats prints your levels, how long you have been alive and your XP rate.
  • /statinfo prints the XP and bonus rules for every skill.
  • /statsui and /statsui move control the on-screen display, and /statsonoff turns the whole plugin off or on for that player.

Permissions

By default Enable Permission is false, so every player takes part and no permission is needed. Set it to true and a player needs zlevelsremastered.use. The others, all optional:

PermissionWhat it does
zlevelsremastered.noxplossNo XP lost on death
zlevelsremastered.nowipesKeeps their levels when the plugin's data is wiped
zlevelsremastered.chainsaw.allowedChainsaw gathering counts toward Woodcutting
zlevelsremastered.jackhammer.allowedJackhammer gathering counts toward Mining
zlevelsremastered.weapons.blockedGathering with a weapon in hand earns nothing
zlevelsremastered.crafting.instantbulkInstant bulk crafting at max Crafting level, when Require Permission For Instant Bulk Craft is on
zlevelsremastered.vip1, .vip2, .vip3XP boost of 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0

The boosts come from Additional Boost Multipliers. It also lists zlevelsvip1 to zlevelsvip3 at 5.0, 6.0 and 7.0, but those names have no dot, so the plugin creates them as groups, not permissions: put a player in that group instead of granting a permission. To grant a permission in the Console:

oxide.grant group default zlevelsremastered.use

On Carbon:

c.grant group default zlevelsremastered.use

Admin commands

These are for server admins. The plugin checks that the sender is an admin. On Oxide the panel Console counts as one, so they work there as well as in game. On Carbon, type them in game as an admin:

  • zl.info <name or SteamID64> shows a player's levels.
  • zl.lvl <player> <skill> <number> changes levels. Skills are WC, M, S, A, C, F or *, and the number can start with +, -, * or /. zl.lvl * * +3 gives every online player three levels in everything, and ** means every player including offline ones.
  • zl.playerxpm <player> <number> sets a player's XP multiplier. The plugin's usage text says 100 or more, but the code only rejects numbers of 0 or below.
  • zl.toggledeathpenalty flips the death penalty, and zl.toggledeathpenalty status reports it.
  • zl.reset true resets player data to zero, except for players holding zlevelsremastered.nowipes. Take a backup from the Backups tab first.

Settings

Press Config on the plugin in the Installed list. The file has sections named Generic, Functions, CUI, Night Bonus, Settings and Level Up Rewards. In Generic, Penalty On Death is true and Penalty Minutes is 10, and Wipe Data OnNewSave is false, so levels survive a map wipe unless you turn it on.

Common problems

  1. Nothing levels up. With Enable Permission on, the player needs zlevelsremastered.use. They may also have run /statsonoff.
  2. Power tools give no XP. Grant the chainsaw or jackhammer permission above.
  3. Levels disappeared after a wipe. Wipe Data OnNewSave is on and the player lacks zlevelsremastered.nowipes.
