Use the Dangerous Treasures Plugin on Rust

Install Dangerous Treasures on a Rust server, start an event with dtevent, turn on automatic events and tune the unlock timer, loot time and ladder.

Updated 4 min read

Dangerous Treasures starts a treasure chest event somewhere on the map: a chest guarded by fire, a timer before it unlocks and, depending on the settings, NPCs and a missile launcher. Players race to it and fight over the loot. This guide covers installing the plugin on a Rust server, starting an event by hand, turning on automatic events and the settings you are most likely to change.

Checked against Dangerous Treasures 3.0.0 by nivex on uMod (released 7 October 2026), October 2026. uMod describes it as a dangerous event with treasure chests. It compiled and loaded on our Carbon test server (Carbon 2.0.262, Rust build 2635).

Install it

Open the Plugins tab, search the Store for DangerousTreasures and press Install. How to install Oxide/uMod plugins on your Rust server covers the tab, Oxide and Carbon.

On Oxide, a newly installed plugin stays unloaded until you restart the server or type oxide.load DangerousTreasures in the Console. On Carbon it loads by itself within seconds, and the commands are c.load, c.unload and c.reload. The oxide.* commands, oxide.grant included, print nothing and do nothing on Carbon. Permissions only exist once the plugin has loaded, so grant them afterwards. The plugin works alone. It can also talk to Zone Manager, Economics, Server Rewards, GUI Announcements and others if they are installed, but none is required.

Permissions

PermissionWhat it allows
dangeroustreasures.useStart a manual event with the chat or console command
dangeroustreasures.notitleSkips the player when the ranked ladder hands out its end-of-wipe reward
dangeroustreasures.thGiven by the plugin to the top players on the ranked ladder at wipe (see below)

Players flagged as admins in game do not need dangeroustreasures.use. To let a player start events:

oxide.grant user 76561198000000001 dangeroustreasures.use

On Carbon the twin is c.grant user 76561198000000001 dangeroustreasures.use. c.grant user <SteamID64> <permission> ran on our Carbon test server and answered Granted user 'Unnamed' permission 'kits.admin'.

Start an event by hand

The command is dtevent, in chat as /dtevent and in the server Console as dtevent:

dtevent [difficulty] [amount] [tp|me|SteamID]
  • difficulty is a level number. The three default levels are 0 for Easy, 1 for Medium and 2 for Hard.
  • amount is how many events to open at once.
  • tp teleports you to the chest. me opens it where you are looking. A SteamID64 teleports that player.

dtevent help lists the levels and the monument names. The extra words tp, me, custom and 5sec are for admins only. Players with the permission can start events only until Max Manual Events is reached (1 by default); admins are not held to that limit. In chat, /dtd is the distance command: it tells you where the event is and how far away you are.

Turn on automatic events

Nothing starts by itself on a new install. In the config, each entry under Difficulty Levels has an Events group with Automated set to false. Set it to true on the levels you want, and the plugin opens one every Every Min Seconds to Every Max Seconds, which default to 3600 and 7200.

Press Config on the plugin in the Installed list, make the change, press Save and then Reload plugin.

Settings worth knowing

  • Time To Loot is 900 seconds by default.
  • Unlock Time has Min Seconds 300 and Max Seconds 480, the wait before the chest can be opened, between those two figures. Unlock When Npcs Die unlocks it sooner.
  • Amount Of Items To Spawn is 6 on Easy, 12 on Medium and 18 on Hard, and each level has its own Treasure list, NPCs, Fireballs and Missile Launcher group.
  • Event Chat Command (dtevent), Distance Chat Command (dtd) and Event Console Command (dtevent) rename the commands.
  • Ranked Ladder is on by default. /dtd ladder shows the top ten for this wipe and /dtd lifetime for all time, and at wipe the top 3 are added to a treasurehunter group.
  • TruePVE has Allow PVP At Events true by default. How to use the True PVE plugin on your Rust server covers that plugin.

Common problems

  1. Nothing spawns. Automatic events are off by default, as above. Try dtevent 0 in the Console; the plugin treats the server console as an admin.
  2. A player sees "You do not have permission to use this command." They need dangeroustreasures.use, or to be an admin.
  3. The chest is locked. That is the unlock timer, or Unlock When Npcs Die.
