Use the Furnace Splitter Plugin on Rust

Install Furnace Splitter on a Rust server, grant its permission, use the furnace panel and /fs, and choose which furnaces the plugin applies to.

Updated 4 min read

Furnace Splitter spreads the ore you drop into a furnace across its slots in equal stacks, so every slot smelts at once, and adds a small panel on the furnace screen with a time estimate and fuel controls. This guide covers installing it on a Rust server, the one permission it needs, the settings that decide which furnaces it touches and the usual reasons it seems to do nothing.

Checked against Furnace Splitter 2.5.4 by FastBurst on uMod (released 4 July 2026), October 2026. uMod describes it as splitting up ores into equal stacks when you put them into furnaces, and the plugin's own description adds that it shows useful furnace information. It compiled and loaded on our Carbon test server (Carbon 2.0.262, Rust build 2635).

Install it

Open the Plugins tab, search the Store for FurnaceSplitter and press Install. How to install Oxide/uMod plugins on your Rust server covers the tab, Oxide and Carbon.

On Oxide, a newly installed plugin stays unloaded until you restart the server or type oxide.load FurnaceSplitter in the Console. On Carbon it loads by itself within seconds, and the commands are c.load, c.unload and c.reload. The oxide.* commands, oxide.grant included, print nothing and do nothing on Carbon. Permissions only exist once the plugin has loaded, so grant them afterwards.

Give players the permission

The plugin registers one permission, furnacesplitter.use. Without it the plugin ignores the player: no panel, no splitting. To let everyone use it, grant it to the default group in the Console:

oxide.grant group default furnacesplitter.use

On Carbon:

c.grant group default furnacesplitter.use

To limit it to one person, use oxide.grant user <name or SteamID64> furnacesplitter.use instead, or c.grant user <SteamID64> furnacesplitter.use on Carbon, which answered Granted user ... permission ... on our test server for another plugin's permission.

Using it in game

Open any furnace you have permission to use. The plugin adds a panel titled Furnace Splitter with:

  • A Turn On or Turn Off button, which switches the splitting for you only.
  • An ETA line, showing roughly how long the current load will take and how much fuel it needs.
  • A Total stacks control with < and > buttons, which sets how many slots the ore is divided across. It cannot go above the furnace's number of input slots.
  • A Trim fuel button, which takes out any fuel beyond what the current ore needs and hands it back to you, or drops it if your inventory is full.

The same switch is in chat: /fs shows your current status, /fs on turns splitting on and /fs off turns it off. Players start with splitting on. While savePlayerData is true, each player's choices are written to oxide/data/FurnaceSplitter.json (carbon/data/FurnaceSplitter.json on Carbon) whenever the server saves, so they survive a restart.

Settings

Press Config on the plugin in the Installed list. There are three top-level settings:

  • UiPosition has x and y values for where the panel sits, 0.6505 and 0.022 by default.
  • savePlayerData is true by default.
  • ovens is a list keyed by furnace name, each with enabled and fuelMultiplier (1.0 by default).

The entry named * stands for every furnace and is enabled by default. When the server starts, the plugin adds an entry for each furnace type it finds, set to disabled, and a furnace uses its own entry only when that entry is enabled; otherwise it falls back to * if that is enabled. So to limit the plugin to some furnaces, set * to disabled and enable just the ones you want.

Warning

If you are updating from 2.4.1 to 2.5.0 or later, the author's notes in the plugin's source say to unload it and delete oxide/data/FurnaceSplitter.json (carbon/data/FurnaceSplitter.json on Carbon) first.

Common problems

  1. There is no panel. The player lacks furnacesplitter.use, the plugin is not loaded (oxide.plugins on Oxide or c.plugins on Carbon shows it), or the furnace is disabled in ovens and * is off.
  2. The panel shows but nothing splits. The switch is per player. Press Turn On or type /fs on.
  3. Trim fuel does nothing. It only acts while splitting is on, and only when the furnace holds more fuel than the current ore needs.
