Use the Fuel Monitor Plugin on Rust
Show a fuel gauge and low-fuel warnings to Rust drivers with the paid Codefling plugin, and set it per vehicle with the /fui screen.
Fuel Monitor puts a fuel gauge on the screen of anyone driving a fuel-powered vehicle. It shows a live fuel bar, pops up a warning when the tank runs low, plays a sound alert, and shows OUT OF FUEL when it is empty. Admins change how it looks and behaves from a settings screen in the game, without editing files. This guide covers getting it onto your server and what that screen controls.
Checked against Fuel Monitor 4.5.4 by Khaled on its Codefling page (released 4 June 2026), October 2026. The page marks it as compatible with both Oxide and Carbon.
Where to get it
Fuel Monitor is a paid plugin sold on Codefling, not on uMod. The Plugins tab searches uMod, so a search there won't find it. Install it by hand:
- Buy the plugin on its Codefling page and download its files. Upload what the page tells you to.
- On your Rust server, open the File Manager and go to
oxide/plugins(on Carbon,carbon/plugins). - Upload the plugin files there and keep their names as downloaded.
- Carbon loads a plugin it finds in its plugins folder by itself. If it doesn't load, Restart the server, or in the Console run
oxide.load <Name>on Oxide orc.load <Name>on Carbon, where<Name>is the plugin's name.c.reload <Name>reloads it on Carbon.
The server needs Oxide or Carbon first. How to install Oxide/uMod plugins on your Rust server covers that, and how an uploaded plugin shows in the Installed list.
What players see
Once it is running, Fuel Monitor works in the background and needs no player commands. While driving, a player gets:
- A fuel bar that updates in real time.
- A low fuel popup, with a sound alert.
- An OUT OF FUEL warning when the tank is empty.
- A speedometer, in Km/h or MPH, on the same HUD.
The admin settings screen
The one command is /fui, which the page lists under Admin Commands. The page describes an in-game Admin Settings UI where an admin can:
- Preview changes live before applying them.
- Set the Global Max Fuel value.
- Move the main fuel display with Move Mode, and the popup warnings with Warning Move Mode.
- Change all the UI colours.
- Turn the speedometer on or off, and switch between Km/h and MPH.
Changes go through a pending step with Apply and Cancel controls. Nothing goes live for players until you confirm, and once applied it affects everyone on the server.
Settings for each vehicle
The settings screen also has a Vehicles tab, where each supported vehicle gets its own profile. For each one you can:
- Turn the HUD on or off.
- Turn the warning sound on or off.
- Set a custom maximum fuel.
- Choose whether low fuel warnings use Amount or Percent, and set the warning thresholds.
- Set the thresholds for the fuel bar gradient.
- Preview the profile, reset a single vehicle, or apply one vehicle's profile to all of them.
Use this when one vehicle needs a different warning point from the rest, rather than one setting for everything.
Common problems
/fuidoes nothing. The page lists it as an admin command. Try it from an admin account, and check the plugin has loaded: the Console prints aLoaded pluginline when it has.- Nothing shows while driving. The plugin may still be unloaded on Oxide. Restart, or run
oxide.load(Oxide) orc.load(Carbon) with the plugin's name. Then check the Vehicles tab hasn't switched the HUD off for that vehicle. - A change didn't reach players. Press Apply. Until then it is only a preview.
