Use a Creative World on Your Dragonwilds Server
What a Creative world removes, how to import one to your Dragonwilds server and why your party needs Creative characters to join it.
A Creative world in RuneScape: Dragonwilds removes the survival grind so your group can build without limits. Your server can host one, but the mode is chosen when the world is made in the game, not in the panel. This guide covers what Creative mode does, how to get a Creative world onto your server and what your party needs before they join.
Checked against RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0.1, October 2026.
What a Creative world changes
Jagex's own announcement lists what Creative worlds remove:
- Building: every building piece is unlocked, buildings cost no materials and carry weight is infinite.
- Crafting: every recipe is unlocked and crafting costs no materials.
- Skills: every skill is maxed, spells need no runes and have no cooldown, and Lodestone teleports cost no runes.
- Survival: hunger, thirst and endurance stay full, there are no world events such as dragon attacks or the Hunted event, and enemies don't attack.
When you create the world you can also switch building stability on or off. With stability off, structures can go much higher than the foundation material would normally allow.
Why the server has no Creative switch
The Startup tab holds the server's own settings, such as World Name and Join Password, and none of them sets a game mode. The mode is part of the world's save file. The way to host one is to create the world on your PC and import it. Change difficulty and world settings explains the full process, and the short version is below.
Get a Creative world onto your server
- In the game on your PC, choose to create a new world and pick the Creative world type. Set the stability option you want.
- Enter the world, wait a minute or two for the ground to load, then press Esc and choose Exit Game so it saves.
- Open
%LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGameson your PC and find the world's.savfile. Don't rename it. - In the dashboard, take a backup on the Backups tab, then Stop the server.
- Open the World Import tab, drop the
.savfile on it, pick it and click Import. It sets World Name for you. - Press Start, then join.
Your old world stays on the server as a save file. RuneScape: Dragonwilds worlds and saves shows how to switch back to it.
What your party needs
Jagex's announcement says you need a Creative character to enter a Creative world, and Creative characters can only join Creative worlds. Characters made for the other world type, which Jagex's announcement calls Campaign and the wiki calls Standard, can't enter them. Everyone in your party creates a Creative character first. The game offers up to eight character slots, so there is room for both kinds.
Keep your Standard world and your Creative world as two saves on the same server. Switch between them by changing World Name in Startup and restarting, once everyone has the right character.
Changing World Name starts a brand-new world if the name has no save behind it. Type the Creative world's name exactly as it was imported.
If it doesn't work
- The world looks like a normal survival world - the server loaded a different save. Check World Name matches the import exactly, then restart.
- A friend can't pick the world - they are on a Standard character. They need a Creative one.
- Nobody can find the server - see Fix: Dragonwilds server missing from the public list.
