Set up the Chosen's Modded Adventure server
Install Chosen's Modded Adventure on a Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge server from the Modpacks tab using the author's CurseForge server files.
Chosen's Modded Adventure is a Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge modpack by the CurseForge author ChosenArchitect. Its page describes a sandbox of magic, technology and building, with Ars Nouveau and Create among the mods, and quests to follow. The author publishes server files for it, and the Modpacks tab installs them for you.
Checked against Chosen's Modded Adventure 0.9.2 (the CurseForge file dated 3 May 2024) on Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.2.30, the version its server script names, October 2026.
What the pack needs
- Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. The server files' own start script names Forge 47.2.30 and Java 17. The panel picks Java 17 for a 1.20.1 pack, so there is nothing to choose.
- Memory. The pack's page gives no RAM figure. Its server files include a
user_jvm_args.txtthat sets a 4 GB minimum and a 6 GB maximum heap, and a comment in it calls 4 GB a good default for a modded server. Our launch sizes the heap from your plan instead. Read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and check the Minecraft plans before you install. - Disk space. The server files are a download of about 451 MB and unpack to about 512 MB. The download sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both.
- The pack for players. Players install 0.9.2 from the CurseForge app.
Install the server
- Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
- Choose the CurseForge chip in the source chip row at the top of the tab and search for
Chosen's Modded Adventure. - Press Install on Chosen's Modded Adventure, not Chosen's Modded Adventure: Chunk by Chunk, which is a separate pack. The popup says it reinstalls your server and names Forge and Minecraft 1.20.1.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked, because your current world is replaced. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to start by itself, and I agree to the Minecraft EULA if the popup shows it.
- Hold Install and reinstall until it fills, then wait for the install to finish.
The pack's files sit inside one folder named CMA Server Files 0.9.2, and the install moves them up to the server's main folder, leaving an empty folder of that name behind.
The server files carry no Forge libraries, so the installer sets up Forge for 1.20.1 itself. It installs 47.2.30, the build the pack names, and the console bar shows Installing Forge 1.20.1-47.2.30 for about 15 to 26 seconds while it works.
First start
Press Start on the Console tab and accept the Minecraft EULA if the panel asks. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type. Your address is in the left rail with a copy button beside it. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft.
Settings the pack's script sets
The pack's own startserver.sh writes allow-flight=true and max-tick-time=180000 into a new server.properties. Our launch does not run that script, so set them yourself in Config Editor: Allow flight and Watchdog timeout (ms). The install already creates server.properties, so open Config Editor once it finishes, change the two options, then press Save changes in each section (or use the save bar that appears), and restart. The watchdog is 60000 by default.
Common problems
- A player cannot join. Check that the server has finished starting, which is when the console prints a line containing
For help, type, and that you share the address from the left rail. - The install stops while unpacking. Your plan's disk may be too small. Check Disk Analyser, clear space and install again.
- The server lags. Watch the RAM Usage card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail, and read why is my server lagging.
Installing a pack reinstalls your server. If you have a world you care about, keep Take a backup first ticked.
