Install Storage Drawers on your server

Install Storage Drawers 26.3.0.2 on a NeoForge 26.3 server from Modrinth, see the Fabric API need and how drawer controls work.

Updated 4 min read

Storage Drawers is a bulk-storage mod with no traditional slotted inventory. Players click a drawer's front to put items in or take them out, and a controller block can link a whole bank of drawers together. It runs on NeoForge, Forge and Fabric, and players need the same mod in their own game.

Checked against Storage Drawers 26.3.0.2 on NeoForge 26.3, October 2026. Version 13.11.4 covers 1.21.1 on all three loaders, and 12.15.1 covers 1.20.1.

What it needs

Storage Drawers publishes Modrinth builds for NeoForge, Forge and Fabric. As a mod it can't run on Paper or Purpur. The 26.3 NeoForge jar needs Minecraft 26.3 and NeoForge 26.3.0.37 or newer. Minecraft 26.x runs on Java 25, 1.21.1 on Java 21 and 1.20.1 on Java 17, and the panel picks the right one for you.

The current NeoForge and Forge builds (26.3, 1.21.1 and 1.20.1) list no other required mods. The Fabric build needs Fabric API, and lists Forge Config API Port as optional.

Open Content in the panel menu and look for Mods. If the tab says Plugins or is missing, open JAR Manager under More, choose your loader under Server software, pick the Minecraft version and press Apply change. Leave Take a backup first ticked and confirm with Confirm & reinstall. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the full steps.

Install Storage Drawers

  1. Open Mods, keep the Store view and the Modrinth chip selected in the source chip row at the top of the tab. The Game version filter starts on your server's version.
  2. Search for Storage Drawers and press Install on the result named exactly Storage Drawers. Create: Storage Drawers compat, Storage Drawers Unofficial and GregTech Storage Drawers are separate projects.
  3. On a Fabric server, a window titled Needs 1 more add-on lists Fabric API as required, and Forge Config API Port appears as an optional extra with an empty tick box. Press Install all. A NeoForge or Forge server installs the mod directly.
  4. Restart from the Console tab. The install message says to restart the server.

Open the Installed view to check. Storage Drawers should be listed with no Failed to load badge.

Players need the same mod

Modrinth marks Storage Drawers as required on both the client and the server. Each player installs the same mod through their launcher, on the same loader and Minecraft version. Join a modded server from your launcher covers it, and Fix the mismatched mod channel list error explains the usual refusal when lists differ.

How players use drawers

Interaction is click-based, and the mod's page lists it:

  • Right-click puts a full stack from your hand into the drawer.
  • Double-right-click puts in all compatible stacks from your inventory.
  • Left-click takes out one item, and Shift+Left-click takes a full stack.
  • Shift+Right-click with an empty hand opens a screen with exact counts and the applied upgrades.

The page says the shift-click behaviour is the reverse of Jabba's, and that the controls can be reversed in the mod config to match Jabba.

The project's wiki describes the Drawer Controller, which reaches drawers that connect to it directly or through other drawers or trim blocks. How far it reaches is set by the controllerRange option in the mod's common config. In 26.3.0.2 its default is 50, and the option's own comment says the largest recommended range is around 75, or the expected chunk load distance. A Drawer Key locks a drawer to its item. The wiki adds that other players can still access locked drawers, so a key doesn't keep other players out of a shared storage room.

Updating

Click Check for updates in the Installed view and restart afterwards. Take a backup first from the Backups tab if your players keep a lot in drawers.

Common problems

  • Nothing turns up in the results: Storage Drawers has Forge builds for most releases from 1.14.4 onward, plus a handful of older ones back to 1.7.10, and its NeoForge and Fabric builds start at 1.20.1. Not every patch version has one, so check the version list on its Modrinth page against your server.
  • The server stops at startup: open Console and read the last lines, then look in the Installed view for a Needs badge. Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers reading the log.
  • Slow ticks: Why is my server lagging? Find the cause lists the usual causes.
