Breed Mutated Pals in Palworld
The 1% and 3% mutation odds, the Extravagant Vegetable Cake, what a mutated Pal gets and how to plan parents with the panel Breeding tab, on 1.0.5.
Mutation is a Palworld 1.0 breeding mechanic. Any breeding pair has a small chance of laying a mutated egg, which hatches a rarer and stronger Pal than the pair would normally produce. This guide covers the odds, the cake that raises them, what a mutated Pal gets and how to plan the parents with the Breeding tab on your server.
Checked against Palworld v1.0.5 (Pocketpair's latest patch notes, 15 September 2026), October 2026.
What mutation is
Pocketpair's 1.0 notes describe Mutation as a mechanic "where breeding has a low chance of producing a Pal stronger than the normal breeding result", and say Pals born from mutated eggs "have higher stats and a unique passive skill".
The wiki and paldb.cc agree on the odds: a 1% chance per egg with a normal cake, and 3% with the Extravagant Vegetable Cake. Pocketpair's 1.0 notes call that cake the Deluxe Vegetable Cake and say it increases the likelihood of mutations and makes stat growth more likely, so you may see either name.
Set up the farm
The wiki and paldb.cc agree on the Breeding Farm basics:
- It unlocks at character level 19.
- It costs 10 Wooden Board, 20 Stone and 50 Fiber to build.
- You assign one male and one female Pal to it, and you must place a cake in the facility for it to produce eggs.
The wiki also says you must beat Lily and Lyleen at least once before the farm will unlock. Only the wiki says this, so check it in game.
Pocketpair's 1.0 notes list the special cakes: the Mushroom Cake slightly raises the chance of higher stats, the Vegetable Cake produces two eggs at once, the Deluxe Vegetable Cake raises the mutation chance, and the Special Cake raises the chance of inheriting several passive skills.
What a mutated Pal gets
The wiki and paldb.cc agree that a mutated egg always hatches an Alpha Pal at Condensation Level 2. The wiki also says it has very high stat potentials and at least two Tier 4 passives, one of them exclusive to mutation. Both sites list four of the exclusive passives the same way: Babysitter, Heavily Armored, Idiosyncratic and Immortality. They name the fifth differently, Sky Strider on paldb.cc and Skymarcher on the wiki.
Plan the parents with the Breeding tab
Open the Breeding tab on your Palworld server. Choose Pick parents to enter Parent 1 and Parent 2 and see the baby, or Pick a baby to find parent pairs for the Pal you want. The tab shows the normal result of the pair. Its notes point out that a mutated egg, about 1 in 100, hatches a rarer Pal than the one shown. The calculator uses Palworld v1.0.4 game data from paldb.cc, so a newer patch may shift some pairings.
Both parents must be opposite genders to breed, according to the tab's own notes.
On a hosted server
Mutation is part of the base game, so your server needs no mod. The World Settings tab has Egg hatch time (hours), which Pocketpair's server settings page describes as the "time to hatch a Huge Egg (hours)" and notes that other eggs also need time to incubate. It has no setting for the mutation chance. For the full list, see Palworld server settings explained.
