Palworld Work Suitability Explained

The 12 work suitability kinds, how the 1.0 levels rise to 10, and the best Pals for each kind where the wiki and paldb.cc agree.

Updated 4 min read

Work suitability decides which jobs a Pal can do at your base and how well it does them. Palworld has 12 kinds, each with a level, and 1.0 stretched the scale to 10. This guide explains the 12 kinds, how the levels rise and which Pals the wiki and paldb.cc agree are best at each.

Checked against Palworld v1.0.5 (Pocketpair's latest patch notes, 15 September 2026; paldb.cc game data v1.0.5), October 2026.

How levels work in 1.0

Pocketpair's 1.0 notes say work suitability levels were expanded to 10, and that the values of all Pals were rebalanced. Each time a Pal ranks up, one of its work suitability levels now rises, and reaching the maximum rank raises all of them. The notes also say Applied Technique items are easier to obtain, and add an Applied Ranching Handbook I that raises the ranching level. The wiki and paldb.cc both put the top of the scale at 10.

Two partner skills in the 1.0 notes add a level for every other Pal at the base while the skill's owner is there, and the bonus does not stack. Cinnamoth's Mysterious Scales adds one Farming level, and Ribbuny's Happy-Go-Lucky Bunny adds one Handiwork level.

The 12 kinds

The wiki describes each kind's work and paldb.cc lists the structures that use it. They line up.

KindWhat it covers
KindlingCampfires, cooking pots, furnaces and heaters
WateringWatering crops at plantations, and the Crusher and Mill
PlantingSowing seeds at plantations
Generating ElectricityPower generators
HandiworkWorkbenches, assembly lines and repairs
GatheringHarvesting plantation crops
LumberingChopping trees at logging sites
MiningStone pits, ore mines and quarries
Medicine ProductionMedicine workbenches and clinics
CoolingCoolers, refrigerators and cold storage
TransportingCarrying items to storage
FarmingProducing items at a Ranch

Pocketpair's 1.0 notes add some detail. Pals with Handiwork can now repair structures without a Repair Kit. The new Clinic and Ancient Clinic use the Medicine Production level of the assigned Pals to cut SAN loss and illness. Harvest yield scaling by Gathering level was rebalanced, and Transporting level widens the area from which a Pal collects dropped items. paldb.cc lists the Ancient Relic Recycler as a Handiwork structure, so see Use the Ancient Relic Recycler in Palworld.

The best Pals at each kind

Every entry below is on both the wiki's table and paldb.cc's list, with the same level. The wiki's table is a short list of the strongest Pals, so it leaves out a few that paldb.cc ranks at the same level.

KindLevel 8Level 7Level 6 and below

Farming has no row, because it works by the item each Pal's Ranch produces rather than a single best Pal.

What was left out

paldb.cc's full lists are much longer than the wiki's table: over a hundred Pals each for Handiwork, Gathering and Transporting. A few Pals sit at a top level on paldb.cc only, such as Starryon Primo and Hartalis at Gathering level 7, and Blazamut and Knocklem Ignis at Mining level 7. They are not in the table. paldb.cc also shows a second, higher figure beside each Pal's level, which the wiki does not, so only the first figure was compared.

On your hosted server

The World Settings tab has a Work speed setting in the Rates group, described as base-wide crafting and work speed. See Palworld server settings explained for the rest.

Tip

Pocketpair's 1.0 notes added an alert when no Pal at a base has the work suitability a facility needs. If you see it, check the facility's kind in the table above and move a suitable Pal in.
