Start a OneBlock Skyblock server
Install BentoBox and the AOneBlock addon on Paper 26.3, create the first island, set the world options and manage phases with /oba.
OneBlock gives every player a single magical block floating in the void. Each time they break it, it comes back as a different block, mob or chest from the current phase, and moving through the phases unlocks new materials and challenges. AOneBlock is the multiplayer version, and it runs as an addon to BentoBox rather than as a plugin of its own. This guide installs both, creates the first island and covers the settings to check first.
Checked against AOneBlock 1.28.0 and BentoBox 3.23.4 on Paper 26.3, October 2026. The AOneBlock Modrinth page lists game versions only up to 26.1.2, so the choice of 26.3 follows the compatibility section of the 1.28.0 release notes on GitHub, which name Minecraft 26.x and add a phase for 26.3.
What you need
- Paper on Minecraft 26.3. BentoBox 3.23.4 needs Java 25, and the panel runs Java 25 only on 26.x versions. AOneBlock lists Minecraft 26.x or 1.21.5 and newer. Two of its 21 phases need a newer game: Sulfur Caves needs 26.2 and Dappled Forest needs 26.3. In JAR Manager (under More in the left rail) pick Paper, version 26.3, then press Apply change (Change your Minecraft version or mod loader). Create a backup first, because the change reinstalls the server.
- BentoBox, from the Plugins tab.
- The AOneBlock jar, downloaded to your computer from its Modrinth page or GitHub releases.
Do not install AOneBlock from the Plugins tab. That tab saves files into plugins, and the BentoBox install guide says addons are not plugins: they will not load from there. They go in plugins/BentoBox/addons.
Install BentoBox and the addon
- Open Plugins in the Content group. Leave Modrinth selected, search
BentoBoxand press Install. - Open the Console tab, press Start, and accept the EULA if asked. Wait until the console shows the server is ready, then press Stop. BentoBox does nothing by itself, but this creates its folders.
- Open File Manager and go into
plugins, thenBentoBox, thenaddons. - Press Upload files and choose
AOneBlock-1.28.0.jar. - Start the server. AOneBlock creates its worlds and a data folder at
plugins/BentoBox/addons/AOneBlock, withconfig.ymland aphasesfolder. - Run
bentobox versionin the console. It lists BentoBox and every loaded addon, so AOneBlock should appear.
Check the settings
Stop the server before editing plugins/BentoBox/addons/AOneBlock/config.yml in File Manager. If a change affects the worlds, delete the default worlds before the next start. They are named from world-name, which is oneblock_world by default.
distance-between-islandsis400. The plugin will not start if you change it after islands exist, so set it now.create-island-on-first-loginhasenable: false. Turn it on if new players should get an island without running a command.difficultyisNORMAL.mobs-clear-blocksistrue. Mobs clear blocks around where they spawn, so players cannot box in the magic block and let a mob suffocate. The file's own comment calls this cheat prevention, andfalseturns it off.
Playing and managing
Players run /ob. The first time it creates their island, and after that it takes them home. /ob count shows phase progress. /ob phases opens the phase viewer, but it needs the permission aoneblock.phases, which is off by default (Set up LuckPerms on your Minecraft server). /ob bossbar and /ob actionbar toggle progress displays, and bossbar and actionbar are both true in the default config.
Operators use /oba. Give yourself operator status in Players under Operators with Make operator.
/oba sanity <phase>prints a check of that phase's probabilities in the console./oba setcount <player> <number>moves a player to another phase./oba setchest <phase> <rarity>saves the chest you are looking at into a phase. The rarities are COMMON, UNCOMMON, RARE and EPIC./oba phasesopens the phase order editor.
Phase files are in the phases folder. Each block or mob entry has a weight, and its chance is the weight divided by the total of all weights in that phase.
If something does not work
- AOneBlock is not in
bentobox version. The jar is inpluginsinstead ofplugins/BentoBox/addons, or it does not match your BentoBox version. - "Internal error occurred attempting to perform this command". The BentoBox FAQ says this usually means BentoBox and Minecraft versions do not match.
- The server stops with "Island distance mismatch".
distance-between-islandswas changed after islands were made. Put it back, or reset the worlds and databases. - New players have no island. Turn on
create-island-on-first-login, or have them run/ob.
