Set up a Horror Craft server
Install the Horror Craft 1.12.2 modpack from the Modpacks tab, with its RAM needs, and tell it apart from similarly named packs.
Horror Craft is a Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge modpack that aims to bring anxiety and dread to the peaceful landscape of Minecraft. The author's page describes peaceful days and frightening nights, with quests, blood moons, pitch-black nights and caves, and a parasite plague to fight off. This guide installs it on your server from the Modpacks tab.
Checked against Horror Craft 1.11.5 on Minecraft 1.12.2 (Forge), October 2026.
Which pack this is
Several packs have similar names. This guide covers Horror Craft by 69ShadesOfPeanut. The author links a newer pack, Horror Craft - The Immemorial, and says it is quite different from this one. A separate pack called Horrorcraft by wartotheknife88 is also on CurseForge and is not covered here.
What it needs
- RAM. The page recommends 5 GB. Check the plans on Minecraft hosting and choose one with at least 5 GB, or more if several friends will join.
- Java 8. The panel runs Minecraft 1.12.2 on Java 8 by itself, so you do not choose it.
- The pack on every player's computer. Players install Horror Craft from its CurseForge page. The page recommends OptiFine for 1.12.2 on the player's side, because its dynamic lighting "really adds to the horror aspect".
What the pack adds
The page lists about 90 mods, including Bloodmoon, Hardcore Darkness, Sanity, Scape and Run: Parasites, Serene Seasons, Better Questing, The Midnight, Mowzie's Mobs and Weeping Angels. It describes multiple dimensions, seasons, a sanity level, improved AI, and zombies drawn to blood, sound and light.
Install it on your server
Installing a modpack reinstalls the whole server, so use a new server or one you can wipe.
- Open the Backups tab and click Create backup.
- Open the Modpacks tab, under Content in the left rail. Above the search box, choose the CurseForge chip.
- Search for
Horror Craftand find the row Horror Craft by 69ShadesOfPeanut. The row shows the 1.12.2 and Forge badges. - Click Install. A window titled Install Horror Craft? opens and names the loader and Minecraft version it will use.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to boot straight away; if the I agree to the Minecraft EULA box then appears, tick it.
- Click Install and reinstall, then watch the Console tab until the install finishes.
The page offers a server pack for the 1.11.5 release, so the panel installs it as a ready-made server.
Join the server
Share the address from the left rail (Connect to your server for the first time shows where). Players start Horror Craft 1.11.5 from the CurseForge app, then join with that address. To use commands, make yourself an operator with Operators in the Players tab (Whitelist players and set operators).
Common problems
- The server stops with an out-of-memory error. Press Download Log in the Console tab (a download icon on a phone) to read the error, then use Change plan in the Settings tab.
- The server lags. Read Why is my server lagging?.
- The install window lists mods to download. If it names mods you must fetch yourself, follow Modpack mods to download from CurseForge.
Installing a modpack replaces the server's current files. Keep the backup if you may want your old world back.
