Set up a GreedyCraft server
Install the GreedyCraft 1.12.2 modpack from the Modpacks tab, with its heavy RAM needs, pack mode setting and licence note.
GreedyCraft is a mega hybrid modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge, with 500+ mods (about 540 load in game) and a focus on adventure. Its author asks for more computer than most packs, so read the requirements below before you buy a plan for it. This guide installs it on your server from the Modpacks tab.
Checked against GreedyCraft 1.35.2.118.1 on Minecraft 1.12.2 (Forge), October 2026.
What it needs
- RAM. The pack's page asks players for at least 10 GB of physical RAM and recommends 16 GB or more. A promotional line on the page suggests 8 GB for a hosted server. Check the plans on Minecraft hosting and choose at least 8 GB, or 16 GB if you can.
- Java 8. The page asks for the latest 64-bit Java 8 and warns that higher versions might cause problems. The panel runs Minecraft 1.12.2 on Java 8 by itself, so you do not choose it.
- The pack on every player's computer. The author says the pack needs extra install steps, and that skipping its guide can cause installation failures or lag. Send players to the GreedyCraft Installation Guide and FAQs.
- A non-commercial server. The licence is CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. The page allows non-commercial servers and does not allow making money from the pack. Read the licence on the pack's page before you open a server to the public.
Install it on your server
Installing a modpack reinstalls the whole server, so use a new server or one you can wipe.
- Open the Backups tab and click Create backup.
- Open the Modpacks tab, under Content in the left rail. Above the search box, choose the CurseForge chip.
- Search for
GreedyCraftand find the row GreedyCraft by TCreopargh. The row shows the 1.12.2 and Forge badges. - Click Install. A window titled Install GreedyCraft? opens and should read Forge and Minecraft 1.12.2.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to boot straight away; if the I agree to the Minecraft EULA box then appears, tick it.
- Click Install and reinstall, then watch the Console tab until the install finishes.
The pack has a dedicated server pack, GreedyCraft-Server-1.35.2.118.x. It ships no server engine, so the install log reads The pack ships no server engine. Installing its loader and the panel installs Forge 1.12.2 for you.
Join the server
Share the address from the left rail (Connect to your server for the first time shows where). To use commands, make yourself an operator with Operators in the Players tab (Whitelist players and set operators).
Pack mode
The wiki says the pack has three modes, set in config/packmode.cfg by changing S:packMode=adventure to S:packMode=expert or S:packMode=casual. It warns that switching mode on an existing world can cause problems, and that recipes such as the Twilight Gem go missing when client and server modes differ. Decide on the mode before players join, and edit the file in File Manager.
Common problems
- "Waiting for Server..." keeps appearing. The wiki says it appears when the server cannot keep its TPS up, often from chunk loading, and usually clears by itself.
- Dropped items add lag. The wiki's lag advice says the
/purgecommand clears dropped items, and suggests running it often when exploring unexplored areas. - The server stops with an out-of-memory error. Press Download Log in the Console tab (a download icon on a phone) to read the error, then use Change plan in the Settings tab.
- The install window lists mods to download. If it names mods you must fetch yourself, follow Modpack mods to download from CurseForge.
Installing a modpack replaces the server's current files. Keep the backup if you may want your old world back.
