Set up a Hexxit Updated server
Install the Hexxit Updated modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2 from the Modpacks tab and check which version the server pack installs.
Hexxit Updated is an unofficial update of the Hexxit modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge. Its author describes cherry-picked mods that add dimensions with bosses and structures, and dungeon mods that fill the Overworld. This guide installs it on your server from the Modpacks tab.
Checked on Minecraft 1.12.2 (Forge), October 2026, installing with the default Newest that fits your server choice, which set up the pack's own server files with Forge 14.23.5.2860. We did not install the newest download, Final Hotfix 3, and the panel may install an older file, as explained below.
What the pack includes
The page names the dungeon mods Recurrent Complex, Doomlike Dungeons and Chocolate Quest Repoured, and the dimension mods Atum, the Betweenlands, the Aether, AbyssalCraft and the Erebus. Diamonds are more common, so players can gear up for exploration sooner.
What it needs
- RAM. The author says the minimum RAM allocation is 2.5 GB. A promotional line on the page recommends at least 3 GB for a server with four players. Its system requirements box lists 4 GB of RAM. Check the plans on Minecraft hosting and choose one with at least 4 GB for headroom.
- Java 8. The panel runs Minecraft 1.12.2 on Java 8 by itself, so you do not choose it.
- The pack on every player's computer. Players install Hexxit Updated from its CurseForge page.
Which version installs
The newest download is Final Hotfix 3 (September 2025), and the page lists one dedicated server pack, uploaded in May 2023. The panel prefers a pack file that has a server pack attached, so the version it installs can be older than the newest download. The installed pack card in the Modpacks tab shows the pack name, the Minecraft version and the loader, but not the file version. If the version matters, pick the file yourself in the install window (see Install a different file below), and ask players to use the same one.
Install it on your server
Installing a modpack reinstalls the whole server, so use a new server or one you can wipe.
- Open the Backups tab and click Create backup.
- Open the Modpacks tab, under Content in the left rail. Above the search box, choose the CurseForge chip.
- Search for
Hexxit Updatedand find the row Hexxit Updated by Cricrane. A pack called Hexxit Reborn on Modrinth is a different one. - Click Install. A window titled Install Hexxit Updated? opens and should read Forge and Minecraft 1.12.2. To choose a particular file, follow Install a different file below.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to boot straight away; if the I agree to the Minecraft EULA box then appears, tick it.
- If the window says some mods need you to download them first, follow Modpack mods to download from CurseForge.
- Click Install and reinstall, then watch the Console tab until the install finishes.
Install a different file
The version dropdown near the top of the install window reads Newest that fits your server. It appears only where the updated installer is on, it hides beta and alpha files, and it shows files for the Minecraft version your server runs now. The Game version filter is not shown while the CurseForge chip is selected, so list the 1.12.2 files through Modrinth:
- Choose the Modrinth chip above the search box.
- Change the Game version chip to 1.12.2. It starts on your server's own version; use Add filter if no chip is shown.
- Choose the CurseForge chip again and search again.
- Press Install and pick the file in the version dropdown.
Join the server
Share the address from the left rail (Connect to your server for the first time shows where). To use commands, make yourself an operator with Operators in the Players tab (Whitelist players and set operators).
Common problems
- The server stops with an out-of-memory error. Press Download Log in the Console tab (a download icon on a phone) to read the error, then use Change plan in the Settings tab.
- The server lags. Read Why is my server lagging?.
Installing a modpack replaces the server's current files. Keep the backup if you may want your old world back.
