Set up a Golden Cobblestone server
Install The Golden Cobblestone, a Minecraft 1.7.10 Forge modpack, from the Modpacks tab with its own server files, then start it and tune it.
The Golden Cobblestone is a Minecraft 1.7.10 Forge modpack. Its CurseForge page says it is the pack from The Golden Cobblestone series on YouTube by MrCrainer and SSundee, and that you go on a quest for the Golden Cobblestone. Kehaan is the pack developer. You install the server files from the Modpacks tab, which downloads the pack's own server zip.
Checked against The Golden Cobblestone 1.2.0 on Minecraft 1.7.10 (Forge 10.13.4.1614), October 2026.
What the pack needs
- Minecraft 1.7.10 with Forge 10.13.4.1614. The server files include
forge-1.7.10-10.13.4.1614-1.7.10-universal.jar, and the panel launches that jar. For Minecraft 1.7.10 the panel runs Java 8 on its own. - Memory. The pack page gives no figure. The pack's own launch script uses
-Xmx2G, and the server files hold 98 mod jars (96 inmodsplus two inmods/1.7.10). Your plan sets the RAM, so see how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and the Minecraft plans. - Disk space. The server zip is about 301 MB and unpacks to about 346 MB. The zip sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so keep room for both.
- The same pack version for players. This guide installs 1.2.0, the newest file on CurseForge, released on 7 September 2026. Players need that version in the CurseForge app.
Install the server files
Installing a modpack reinstalls the server and replaces the current world, so use a new server or one you can wipe.
- Open Backups under Essentials and press Create backup if the server holds anything you want to keep.
- Open Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
- Press the CurseForge source button, then search for
Golden Cobblestone. - Press Install on The Golden Cobblestone by Kehaan. The popup says it reinstalls your server and names Forge and Minecraft 1.7.10.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want the server to start itself, and tick I agree to the Minecraft EULA if the popup shows it.
- Press and hold Hold to Install and reinstall until it fills, then watch the Console tab. The install log reports Pack installed near the end.
First start
Press Start on the Console tab. The pack's own eula.txt says eula=false, so unless you accepted the EULA in the install popup or earlier on this server, the panel opens Accept the Minecraft EULA first, and Accept & start continues. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type.
The server files carry no server.properties, so the install writes a short one and Minecraft fills in the rest on the first start. After that, Config Editor under Content can change it. Your address is in the left rail under Server address, and Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft. To give yourself commands, see Whitelist players and set operators.
Quests and Hardcore Questing Mode
The pack runs on Hardcore Questing Mode 4.4.4 (HQM-The Journey-4.4.4.jar). The mod's CurseForge page describes a life-based hardcore mode, with more than one life before the world is deleted or a player is banned from a server. The pack's config/hqm/hqmconfig.cfg sets Auto-start hardcore mode to false and Auto-start questing mode to true, so a new world starts in questing mode with hardcore off. Leave it that way unless you want that risk, and open the file in File Manager to check.
The same file sets ServerSync to false. Its own comment says that when it is true the server sends the quests to the players who connect, so with it off every player uses the quests in their own copy of the pack. That is one more reason to keep everyone on the same version. The pack page also says Fastcraft is enabled by default, so tell a mod author that Fastcraft is on if you report a bug to them.
Common problems
- A player cannot join. Check they run The Golden Cobblestone 1.2.0 on Minecraft 1.7.10.
- The server lags or runs out of memory. Watch the RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail, lower View distance (chunks) in Config Editor under Performance, and move to a bigger plan if the RAM card stays full. Why is my server lagging has more.
- The install stops while unpacking. Your plan's disk may be too small. Check Disk Analyser, clear space and install again. Server out of disk space shows how.
- The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
Installing a pack replaces the server's current files and world. Keep Take a backup first ticked.
