Set up a Fantasy Realm server
Install the Fantasy Realm modpack for Minecraft 1.18.2 from the Modpacks tab, with its RAM needs and how your friends join.
Fantasy Realm is an RPG adventure and exploration modpack on Forge. The author's page lists 800+ quests, five new dimensions, over 100 new Overworld biomes, 200+ dungeons and structures, RPG stat progression and magic mods such as Forbidden Arcanus and Malum. This guide installs it on your server from the Modpacks tab.
Checked against Fantasy Realm v3 on Minecraft 1.18.2 (Forge), October 2026.
Which version installs
The pack is published for two Minecraft versions:
- Minecraft 1.18.2 on Forge, with v3 uploaded in October 2023. The panel installs this one.
- Minecraft 1.16.5, with v8 HF uploaded in May 2023. Every 1.16.5 file is a beta upload. The version dropdown in the install window shows only release files for a CurseForge pack, so the one-click CurseForge install in the Modpacks tab will not offer it. The Install your own pack card on the same tab takes a server-pack .zip, where the updated installer is on. That is another route to 1.16.5, which this guide does not cover.
Both have a server pack on the pack's page. This guide covers 1.18.2.
What it needs
- RAM. The pack's page gives no RAM figure and lists 250+ mods. Our RAM calculator suggests about 14 GB for four players on a server with 150 or more mods. That is our estimate, not the author's. Pick a plan with 16 GB or more from Minecraft hosting.
- Java. The panel picks Java 17 for Minecraft 1.18.2, so you do not set it.
- The pack on every player's computer. Players install Fantasy Realm from its CurseForge page.
Install it on your server
Installing a modpack reinstalls the whole server, so use a new server or one you can wipe.
- Open the Backups tab and click Create backup.
- Open the Modpacks tab, under Content in the left rail. Above the search box, choose the CurseForge chip.
- Search for
Fantasy Realmand find the row Fantasy Realm by LunaPixelStudios. - Click Install. A window titled Install Fantasy Realm? opens and names the loader and Minecraft version it will use. Check it says Forge and 1.18.2. If the window shows a version dropdown, leave it on Newest that fits your server, which installs v3.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to boot straight away; if the I agree to the Minecraft EULA box then appears, tick it.
- Click Install and reinstall, then watch the Console tab until the install finishes.
Join the server
Share the address from the left rail (Connect to your server for the first time shows where). Players start Fantasy Realm v3, the 1.18.2 pack, in the CurseForge app, then join with that address. To use commands, make yourself an operator with Operators in the Players tab (Whitelist players and set operators).
The pack's page says RPG stats open with the K key and the Journey Map opens with M.
Common problems
- The server stops with an out-of-memory error. Press Download Log in the Console tab (a download icon on a phone) to read the error, then use Change plan in the Settings tab.
- The server lags. Read Why is my server lagging?.
- The install window lists mods to download. If it names mods you must fetch yourself, follow Modpack mods to download from CurseForge.
Installing a modpack replaces the server's current files. Keep the backup if you may want your old world back.
