Set up a Demon Slayers Unleashed server
Install the Demon Slayers Unleashed Forge 1.16.5 pack from the Modpacks tab and match players to the right file, as its server pack is older than 1.6.2.
Demon Slayers Unleashed is a combat-heavy Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge modpack built around the Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer) mod by Orca_san_. Its CurseForge page says you can get a Nichirin Sword and hunt demons as a slayer, or drink Muzan's blood and become a demon. This guide installs it from the Modpacks tab, and explains a version mismatch that this pack has: its newest server pack is older than its newest release.
Checked against DS_Unleashed-1.6.2 (Forge 36.2.39) and the server file of DS_Unleashed-1.5.4 (Forge 36.2.26) on Minecraft 1.16.5, October 2026.
What it needs
- Forge for Minecraft 1.16.5. The 1.6.2 manifest names Forge 36.2.39 and lists 153 mod files, while the 1.5.4 server file carries Forge 36.2.26 and 88 mod jars. The panel runs 1.16.5 on Java 8 by itself, so you do not pick a Java version.
- RAM. The pack page gives no figure. DS_Unleashed-1.6.2 installs and starts on an 8192 MiB plan, reaching the
For help, typeline in about 16 seconds. With 88 to 153 mods, watch the RAM card on the Console tab and move up a plan if it stays full. How much RAM does my Minecraft server need? has the general rules, and Minecraft hosting lists the plans. - The same pack file on every player's computer. Players install Demon Slayers Unleashed from CurseForge.
A mismatch to know about
CurseForge lists DS_Unleashed-1.6.2, from May 2023, as the latest release, and it has no server pack attached. Neither do 1.6.1 or 1.6.0. The newest file that does have one is DS_Unleashed-1.5.4, from June 2022, whose server file is called ServerFile (ServerFileBuild.zip). It holds 88 mod jars against the 153 mods in the 1.6.2 manifest.
The panel installs the newest file that has a server pack. So if you do not choose a file, you get the 1.5.4 ServerFile, and a player on 1.6.2 would not match your server. There are two ways to line them up:
- Match the server to 1.6.2. Open the version menu at the top of the install window (it reads Newest that fits your server) and choose DS_Unleashed-1.6.2. That file has no server pack, so the panel installs the player download, fetches the mods its manifest names and turns the client-only ones off (the Mods tab can turn them back on). Any mod only CurseForge's own site hands out is listed for you to add. It installs Forge 1.16.5-36.2.39, the build the manifest names, and leaves a
manifest.jsonin the server's root. For 1.6.2 that means 151 mods in themodsfolder, 6 of them turned off as client-only, and 2 mods for you to add yourself. - Match the players to 1.5.4. The version menu only appears on some servers. Without it, ask players to install DS_Unleashed-1.5.4 from CurseForge instead of the latest file.
Install it on your server
Installing a modpack reinstalls the whole server, so use a new server or one you can wipe.
- Open Backups and press Create backup if the server holds anything you want to keep.
- Open Modpacks, under Content in the left rail. Above the search box, choose the CurseForge chip.
- Search for
Demon Slayers Unleashedand find the row with the 1.16.5 and Forge badges. A separate pack called Demon Slayers Unleashed - Server Ver. also exists, so check the title. - Press Install. The window that opens names the loader and Minecraft version it will use.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. If the window has a version menu and your players are on 1.6.2, choose DS_Unleashed-1.6.2. Otherwise leave it on the default and use the 1.5.4 file on their side.
- Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to boot by itself. The I agree to the Minecraft EULA box appears once that is ticked, so tick it too.
- If the window says some mods need you to download them first (DS_Unleashed-1.6.2 lists two, Ancient Japan and Skin Layers 3D), tick Install without them (add them later from this tab) to go ahead.
- Press and hold Hold to Install and reinstall for about three seconds, until it fills, then watch the Console tab until the install finishes.
Those mods' authors only allow downloads from CurseForge's own site, and the Modpacks tab lists them afterwards. Modpack mods to download from CurseForge walks through adding them.
First start
If you ticked Start the server when it's ready, the server boots by itself once the install finishes. Otherwise press Start on the Console tab and accept the Minecraft EULA if the panel asks. When the console prints a line containing For help, type, the server is up. Share the address shown under Server address in the left rail (Connect to your server for the first time). To use commands, make yourself an operator in the Players tab (Whitelist players and set operators).
The page's advice for anyone who becomes a demon is to be indoors before the sun comes up. It also recommends the Aquaculture 2 mod by Shadow, which is already in the 1.6.2 mod list.
Common problems
- The server stops with an out-of-memory error. Read the end of the log in the Console tab, then use Change plan in the Settings tab.
- The server lags. Watch the TPS reading in the left rail and read Why is my server lagging?.
Installing a modpack replaces the server's current files. Keep the backup if you may want your old world back.
