Use the Copy Paste Plugin on Rust

Save a build on your Rust server and place it again with the Copy Paste plugin: commands, permissions, options and fixes.

Updated 4 min read

Copy Paste, by misticos, saves a building from your Rust server to a file and places it again anywhere you point, on the same server or another one. Admins use it to move a base, set up an event arena, or restore a build after a mistake.

Checked against Copy Paste 4.3.0 on uMod, October 2026 (released 3 September 2026). uMod describes it as copying and pasting your buildings to save them or move them.

Install it

Open the Plugins tab, stay on Store, search for CopyPaste and press Install. How to install Oxide/uMod plugins on your Rust server covers the tab and config window.

On Oxide, a newly installed plugin stays unloaded until you restart the server or type oxide.load CopyPaste in the Console. On Carbon it loads by itself within seconds, and oxide.load does nothing there, so use c.load CopyPaste, c.unload CopyPaste and c.reload CopyPaste. Permissions only exist once the plugin has loaded, so grant them afterwards.

Permissions

The plugin has five permissions: copypaste.copy, copypaste.paste, copypaste.pasteback, copypaste.list and copypaste.undo. Its code also lets through anyone Oxide reports as an admin, so a server admin can use every command without being granted anything. For a trusted builder:

oxide.grant user 76561198000000001 copypaste.copy
oxide.grant user 76561198000000001 copypaste.paste

On Carbon, oxide.grant does nothing. Use c.grant with the same arguments, for example c.grant user 76561198000000001 copypaste.copy.

Copy and paste a build

These are chat commands, typed in game. Look at a piece of the building first: /copy and /paste aim from your eyes, so the plugin answers "Couldn't ray something valid in front of you" if it cannot find anything.

  1. Look at the building and type /copy mybase. The name is yours to choose.
  2. Go to where you want it, look at the spot and type /paste mybase.
  3. If it landed wrong, type /undo to remove what you pasted.

The other commands are /copylist, which lists the saved names, and /pasteback <name>, which places a saved build back where it was copied from.

Options follow the name as pairs of a word and a value, for example /copy mybase radius 5 method building or /paste mybase height 2 deployables false.

CommandOptionMeaning
/copyradius XXSearch distance for the next object, default 3
/copymethod proximity or buildingProximity copies everything within the radius (the default); building copies only objects that belong to the building
/copy and /pastedeployables, inventoriestrue or false to include deployables or the contents of containers
/pasteheight XX, autoheight trueRaise or lower the build, or let the plugin pick a height
/pasteblockcollision XXCancel the whole paste if the new build would hit something
/pastestability, dlc, vendingChoose whether stability is switched off, DLC items are included, and vending machine listings are kept
/pasteposition x,y,z, rotation X, skins 0-4Override the position or rotation, or choose how skins are handled
Warning

Pasting with Inventories on also places the items that were in the copied boxes. Copy from a build you control, and take a backup from the Backups tab before a large paste on a live map.

Where the builds are saved

Each copy is a JSON file in oxide/data/copypaste (carbon/data/copypaste on Carbon), named after the name you gave. Open it in the File Manager to download it or to upload a build from another server.

Settings

The first load writes oxide/config/CopyPaste.json (carbon/configs on Carbon). Large pastes are spread out so the server does not lag: it handles 5 entities per paste batch, 100 per copy batch and 5 per undo batch, with 0.075 seconds between batches (Loop Execution mode 1). The paste defaults are set under Paste Options, where Auth (copying lock and cupboard authorisations) is false and EntityOwner, which makes you the owner of what you paste, is true. When an entity fails to paste is 1, which stops the paste.

Common problems

  1. "You don't have the permissions to use this command". Grant the matching permission, or use an admin account.
  2. "File does not exist". Check the name with /copylist.
  3. "Something is blocking the paste". You used blockcollision and the spot is occupied. Move, or leave that option out.
  4. "You must paste structure before undoing it". /undo only reverses a paste you made.
