Use the Remover Tool Plugin on Rust
Let players remove their own builds on a Rust server with Remover Tool: permissions, commands, cooldowns, refunds and staff modes.
Remover Tool lets players take down their own walls, doors and deployables with a click instead of hitting them with a hammer, and gives staff stronger removal modes. uMod lists Tryhard as the author, and the plugin's source credits Reneb, Fuji and Arainrr as well. It has a lot of settings, so this guide covers the permissions, the commands and the handful of defaults that decide how it behaves.
Checked against Remover Tool 4.3.48 on uMod, October 2026 (released 3 September 2026). uMod describes it as a building and entity removal tool. It compiled and loaded on our test Carbon server on the current Rust build.
Install it
Open the Plugins tab, stay on Store, search for RemoverTool and press Install. How to install Oxide/uMod plugins on your Rust server covers the tab and config window.
On Oxide, a newly installed plugin stays unloaded until you restart the server or type oxide.load RemoverTool in the Console. On Carbon it loads by itself within seconds, and oxide.load does nothing there, so use c.load RemoverTool, c.unload RemoverTool and c.reload RemoverTool. Permissions only exist once the plugin has loaded, so grant them afterwards.
The plugin can use other plugins when they are installed, and works without them: Friends, Clans, Economics, Server Rewards, Image Library for the on-screen pictures, and a few more.
Permissions
Without removertool.normal, nobody gets the tool, so grant it to the default group to let every player remove their own builds:
oxide.grant group default removertool.normalOn Carbon, oxide.grant does nothing. Use c.grant with the same arguments, for example c.grant group default removertool.normal.
Using it
These are chat commands, typed in game:
/removeturns the tool on for the normal mode, and typing it again turns it off. Add a number of seconds to choose how long it stays on, for example/remove 120./remove admin,/remove all,/remove structureand/remove externalstart those modes. Each takes an optional time as well, and each needs its permission./remove helplists them.- With the default Remove Button of primary fire and No Held Item Mode on, you hold nothing in your hands and press primary fire on the thing you want removed. The tool switches itself off if you take an item in your hand.
The remove command itself is the Chat Command setting, remove by default.
Defaults worth knowing
The first load writes oxide/config/RemoverTool.json (carbon/configs on Carbon). Edit it in the Config window on the Plugins tab. For the normal mode the defaults are:
- The tool lasts 60 seconds by default and 300 at most, reaches 3 metres, and has a cooldown of 60 seconds.
- A player can remove up to 50 objects per use, with 0.8 seconds between removals.
- Pay and Refund are both true, so removing a building block costs materials and returns some. For building blocks the first load fills in a price of 60 percent and a refund of 40 percent of the cost to build. A deployable refunds one of itself.
- Staff are exempt from the cooldown and the object limit while RemoveType - Normal - Cooldown - Exclude admins and RemoveType - Normal - Max Removable Objects - Exclude admins stay on.
The other modes have their own distances: 100 metres for structure, 50 for all, and 20 each for admin and external.
Who may remove a thing is decided by ownership. Use Entity Owners, Use Clans and Use Friends are on, Use Teams is off, and Use Building Locks and Use Tool Cupboards (Strongly unrecommended) are off.
The structure and all modes remove many objects at once. Take a backup from the Backups tab before you use them on a base you cannot rebuild.
Console commands
From the panel Console, remove.allow false switches removal off for everyone except holders of removertool.override, and remove.allow true restores it. remove.target normal <player> starts the tool for a player, and remove.target disable <player> stops it. Type remove.target on its own to see its syntax.
Common problems
- "You don't have 'removertool.normal' permission to use this command." Grant it as above.
- "You need to wait 60 seconds before using Remover Tool again." That is the normal-mode cooldown. Lower it, or ask a staff member to use a staff mode.
- "Remover Tool is currently disabled." Someone ran
remove.allow false. - Nothing is removed when you click. You may not be the owner, a friend or a clan mate of the thing, or you are further than the mode's distance.
