Use the Image Library Plugin on Rust
Install the Image Library plugin on a Rust server, which other plugins use for menu pictures: settings, console commands and fixes.
Image Library, by Absolut and k1lly0u, is a plugin that other plugins lean on rather than one players use. It downloads pictures from the web, stores them on the server and hands them to other plugins' on-screen menus, so a shop, kit list or removal screen can show item icons. It has no chat commands and no permissions. Most of the time you install it, check that it ran, and leave it alone.
Checked against Image Library 2.0.67 on uMod, October 2026 (released 7 September 2026). uMod describes it as a plugin API for managing images.
When you need it
Install it when a plugin's uMod page lists it as a dependency. How to install Oxide/uMod plugins on your Rust server explains how dependencies work. Other plugins treat it as optional: Kits and Remover Tool both check whether Image Library is present and use it only when it is.
Install it
Open the Plugins tab, stay on Store, search for ImageLibrary and press Install.
On Oxide, a newly installed plugin stays unloaded until you restart the server or type oxide.load ImageLibrary in the Console. On Carbon it loads by itself within seconds, and oxide.load does nothing there, so use c.load ImageLibrary, c.unload ImageLibrary and c.reload ImageLibrary. If a plugin that needs Image Library was installed first and did not load, reload it once Image Library shows Loaded plugin.
What it does on first load
On the first start the plugin builds its table of item icon addresses and downloads its two placeholder pictures and anything you list under User Images. After that, images arrive as other plugins register them. The Console prints Starting order followed by the name of each batch, and progress updates while images download. The plugin's own data goes in oxide/data/ImageLibrary (carbon/data/ImageLibrary on Carbon), in image_data.json, image_urls.json and skin_data.json. The images themselves are stored in the game server's file storage, not in that folder.
The server fetches those pictures from the internet. By default the item icons come from https://cdn.rusthelp.com/images/256/, and two placeholder pictures come from imgur, so the server needs to be able to reach them.
Settings
The first load writes oxide/config/ImageLibrary.json (carbon/configs on Carbon). Edit it in the Config window on the Plugins tab.
Console commands
These work from the panel Console, because it connects over RCON, and for in-game admins:
refreshallimagesasks whether to wipe all of Image Library's data. Typeyeswithin 5 seconds to confirm, ornoto cancel. A wipe means every registered image is downloaded again, and plugins that registered images need to be reloaded.cancelstoragecancels downloads that are still pending.
yes and no are ordinary console commands as far as the game is concerned. Only type yes straight after refreshallimages.
Common problems
- Pictures are missing or show as placeholders. Downloads may not have finished, so wait for the progress messages to stop. If they never start, the server cannot reach the address above.
- The Console warns "The CommunityEntity instance ID has changed!" The plugin is re-storing its pictures under the new ID. Let it finish and avoid restarting during it, because interrupting it means downloading the pictures again.
- A dependent plugin says Image Library is missing. Install and load it, then reload that plugin.
