Use the BGrade Plugin on Rust

Let players auto-upgrade building blocks as they place them with BGrade: its permissions, chat commands and timer settings.

Updated 3 min read

BGrade saves players a trip to the hammer. A player picks a building grade, and every wall, floor or roof they place after that goes up already upgraded to it, using the resources from their inventory. It only does anything for players who hold its permissions, so you decide who gets it. This guide covers installing it, the permissions, the chat commands and the timer settings.

Checked against BGrade 1.1.7 on uMod (released 7 August 2026, release note "Patch for August 2026 force wipe"), October 2026. The plugin credits "Ryan / Rustoria.co" as its author and uMod lists Ryan.

Install it

  1. Open the Plugins tab, search the Store for BGrade and press Install. How to install Oxide/uMod plugins on your Rust server has the steps, including adding Oxide to a plain server.
  2. On Oxide, a plugin installed onto a running server stays unloaded until you Restart the server or type oxide.load BGrade in the Console. On Carbon it loads by itself.
  3. The permissions below exist only after it has loaded. Its config file, oxide/config/BGrade.json (carbon/configs/BGrade.json on Carbon), appears after the first load.

Permissions

PermissionWhat it allows
bgrade.1Auto-upgrade to grade 1, Wood
bgrade.2Grade 2, Stone
bgrade.3Grade 3, Metal
bgrade.4Grade 4, Armoured
bgrade.allAll four grades
bgrade.noresUpgrades cost nothing, and so does placing the piece while a grade is selected

A player with none of these is told "You don't have permission to use that command". To let everyone use Wood and Stone upgrades, and an admin group use everything for free:

oxide.grant group default bgrade.1
oxide.grant group default bgrade.2
oxide.grant group admin bgrade.all
oxide.grant group admin bgrade.nores

Those are Oxide commands. On Carbon, start each line with c.grant instead; oxide.grant prints nothing there.

Commands for players

The chat commands are /bgrade and /grade. Both names come from the config and can be changed:

CommandWhat it does
/bgrade 1 to /bgrade 4Upgrades pieces to Wood, Stone, Metal or Armoured when placed
/bgrade 0Turns it off
/bgrade t <seconds>Sets how long until it turns itself off
/bgrade helpLists the commands the player can use, and their current settings

There is also a console command, bgrade.up, which moves the player to the next grade they are allowed, wrapping back to 1 after 4.

When the resources run out the player gets "You don't have enough resources to upgrade." and the piece stays at its placed grade.

The timer

BGrade switches itself off after a set time. In the config, under Timer Settings:

  • Enabled: true
  • Default Timer: 30 seconds
  • Max Timer: 180 seconds

A player who types /bgrade t 300 is told to pick a time below the maximum.

Other settings

Open Installed on the Plugins tab, press Config on BGrade, edit, press Save and then Reload plugin.

  • Command Settings: Chat Commands (bgrade, grade) and Console Commands (bgrade.up).
  • Building Attack Settings: Enabled (true) and Cooldown Time (30), which relate to blocks destroyed by explosions.
  • Refund Settings: Refund on Block (true) gives back the cost of a piece that another plugin blocks through BGrade's CanBGrade hook.
  • Destroy Data on Player Disconnect (for high pop servers): false.

Common problems

  1. "Invalid arguments, please use /bgrade help". The player typed /bgrade with nothing after it, or an unknown word.
  2. Nothing upgrades. Check the player holds the permission for that grade, and that they didn't let the timer run out.
  3. The commands don't exist. The plugin is still unloaded. Restart, or run oxide.load BGrade (Oxide) or c.load BGrade (Carbon; it usually loads by itself).
