Show WorldEdit selections with particles
Install WorldEditSelectionVisualizer beside WorldEdit so players see selections and clipboards outlined with particles, and tune its settings.
When you select a region with WorldEdit, nothing in the world shows where its corners are. WorldEditSelectionVisualizer, or WESV, fills that gap by drawing the selection with particles. Players do not need a client mod. This guide installs it next to WorldEdit and covers its commands and main settings.
Checked against WorldEditSelectionVisualizer 2.1.10 and WorldEdit 7.4.6 on Paper 26.3, October 2026.
What you need
- WorldEdit installed first. WESV declares WorldEdit as a hard dependency, so it will not start without it. See Set up WorldEdit on your Minecraft server.
- A Paper server (or Purpur, which is built on Paper). The plugin also runs on Folia.
The store's dependency prompt appears only when the project lists a dependency. Modrinth's 2.1.10 entry lists none, so the panel will not ask you to add WorldEdit. Install it yourself.
Install it
- Open Plugins in the Content group of the left rail.
- Check that WorldEdit is under Installed. If it is not, install it now.
- Switch back to Store, search
WorldEditSelectionVisualizerwith the Modrinth button selected, and click Install. Hangar lists it too. - Restart from the Console tab (use Start there if the server is stopped), then type
plugins. Both plugins should be green.
Use it
Make a selection in game with the WorldEdit wand. Particles outline it for you. The commands are:
/wesv toggleturns the selection outline on or off for you./wesv toggle clipboarddoes the same for the clipboard, which shows what//copyor//schem loadholds./wesv lockpins the clipboard outline to where you stand, and/wesv lock tpteleports you back to that spot./wesv reloadreloads the config. It needs thewesv.reloadpermission, which operators have.
Everyone can use the toggle and lock commands by default (wesv.use, wesv.toggle, wesv.lock).
Settings
The config file is config.yml in the plugin's own folder under plugins, named WorldEditSelectionVisualizer. Open it in the File Manager and look at these keys:
default-enabled.selectionistrueanddefault-enabled.clipboardisfalse. These are the states new players start in.save-toggle: trueremembers a player's choice between visits.need-we-wand: false. Set it totrueto show the outline only while the player holds the WorldEdit wand item.cuboid-top-bottom: false. Set it totrueto draw the top and bottom faces of a cuboid.visualization.selection.max-selection-sizeis50000. Selections larger than this are not drawn. The file warns that values above 1000000 can cause significant lag.
Run /wesv reload or restart after you edit the file.
Common problems
- The plugin did not enable. WorldEdit is missing or failed to load. Check the Console log.
- No outline appears. Try
/wesv toggle. A player who switched it off stays off ifsave-toggleis on. - The message says the selection is too large. It is over
max-selection-size. Shrink the selection or raise the value. - The outline only shows with the axe in hand.
need-we-wandistrue.
WorldEdit has a built-in alternative, //drawsel. It only works for cuboids up to 48x48x48 and needs creative mode, which is why WESV is the better fit for larger builds.
