Set up the Volcano Block modpack server

Install Volcano Block 1.1.11 on a Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge server from CurseForge in the Modpacks tab, with its server settings, RAM and fixes.

Updated 3 min read

Volcano Block is a questing and progression pack for Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge, by Dark_Arcana. Its page describes the start as being dropped into the heart of a volcano with nothing but a knife. The pack has a dedicated server download on CurseForge, and the Modpacks tab can install it from there.

Checked against Volcano Block 1.1.11 on Forge 14.23.5.2860 and Minecraft 1.12.2, October 2026.

What the pack needs

  • Minecraft 1.12.2 and Forge 14.23.5.2860. The server download's settings.cfg names both. It bundles the Forge installer, and the panel's install script runs a bundled installer and starts the server from the jar it makes. The panel runs 1.12.2 on Java 8.
  • About 4 GB of RAM. The pack's page says it runs fine with 4 GB. The server download's settings.cfg asks for MAX_RAM=5G, but the panel does not use that file: it writes its own launch script and sizes the heap from your plan. Check how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and the Minecraft plans.
  • The same version for players. They need Volcano Block 1.1.11, the file on its CurseForge page. The page also asks players to turn fancy graphics on.

Install from CurseForge

  1. Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
  2. Press the CurseForge chip above the search box and search for Volcano Block.
  3. The results include Volcano Block by Dark_Arcana and All the Mods: Volcano Block ATMVB by ATMTeam, which is a different pack. Choose the one by Dark_Arcana.
  4. Press Install. The window reads "This reinstalls your server with Volcano Block (Forge, Minecraft 1.12.2)."
  5. If the window has a version dropdown, leave it on Newest that fits your server. CurseForge's newest 1.12.2 file with a server pack is 1.1.11.
  6. Leave Take a backup first ticked. If Keep my world, settings and player lists is there, leave it unticked: the pack's server.properties carries its own world generator settings, and ticking it puts your old world and settings back over the pack's. If the window shows a note about your world in place of that tickbox, your world was saved by a newer Minecraft than this pack can open, so it is not kept, and your current world goes into the backup.
  7. Hold Install and reinstall until it completes.

First start and settings

Press Start on the Console tab and accept the EULA when the panel asks. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type. A first start of this pack took about a minute when we checked.

The pack's own server.properties sets level-type=flat with a generator-settings line, turns PvP off, allows 20 players and sets a view distance of 8. Change PvP, Player slots and View distance (chunks) in the Config Editor tab. Leave World type alone so the pack's own level-type and generator-settings lines stay as they are.

Common problems

Warning

Installing a pack reinstalls your server and replaces its files. Keep Take a backup first ticked if the current world matters to you.
