Set up the DigSite modpack server

Install the DigSite 1.0.29 quest map on a Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge server from CurseForge, including the JAR Manager step, RAM and common fixes.

Updated 4 min read

DigSite is a story-driven, map-based sci-fi adventure pack for Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge, by TherealWideblaze. Its CurseForge page describes it as built for one to four co-op players, played over roughly 10 to 20 sessions of forty minutes. The pack ships a server download with the quest map inside it, and the Modpacks tab can install that from CurseForge.

Checked against DigSite 1.0.29 on Minecraft 1.12.2, October 2026. The server download lists Forge 14.23.5.2854.

What the pack needs

  • Minecraft 1.12.2 and Forge. The download's settings.cfg names Forge 14.23.5.2854 and the pack ships no Forge installer, so the panel installs Forge itself. It uses Forge's recommended build for 1.12.2, which was 14.23.5.2859 when this guide was checked, so expect a build a few numbers off the one the author listed. The panel runs 1.12.2 on Java 8.
  • 4 GB of RAM. The author's server readme recommends 4 GB and adds that it will probably run fine on less. See how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and the Minecraft plans.
  • One shared map. The readme says all players use the same map, as in a vanilla game, and that the world folder is called world.

Set the server to Forge first

DigSite's CurseForge listing does not tag a loader, so the Modpacks tab cannot tell the server to use Forge. The install script then uses whatever software the server already runs, and it only knows how to set up Forge, NeoForge or Fabric for a pack that ships no server jar. Do this once before installing:

  1. Open JAR Manager under More in the left rail. That group starts collapsed.
  2. Set Server software to Forge and Minecraft version to 1.12.2.
  3. Press Apply change. In the "Reinstall server?" window, press and hold Hold to Confirm & reinstall for about 3 seconds until it fills. Skip this step if the server already runs Forge 1.12.2.

Install from CurseForge

  1. Choose Modpacks under Content, then press the CurseForge chip above the search box.
  2. Search for DigSite.
  3. Press Install on DigSite. The window reads "(modded, Minecraft 1.12.2)", because the row carries no loader.
  4. Leave Take a backup first ticked. If Keep my world, settings and player lists is there, leave it unticked. The pack's own world folder is the quest map, and ticking it puts your old world back over the pack's. If the window shows a note about your world in place of that tickbox, your world was saved by a newer Minecraft than this pack can open, so it is not kept, and your current world goes into the backup.
  5. If the window has a version dropdown, leave it on Newest that fits your server, which picks 1.0.29. Then hold Install and reinstall until it completes.

First start and settings

Press Start on the Console tab and accept the EULA when the panel asks. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type. The pack's server.properties already sets enable-command-block=true, allow-flight=true and view-distance=10, which the readme asks for. Check them under Command blocks, Allow flight and View distance (chunks) in Config Editor.

To make yourself an operator, run op <your_user_name> in the Console, as the author's troubleshooting page says, or use Players, open Operators and press Make operator.

Common problems

  • The world is a random one, not the quest map. The author's page says the folder must be named world. Check World folder in Config Editor, and that you did not tick keep my world.
  • A player is kicked on joining. The author's page says client and server versions must match exactly. Players need DigSite 1.0.29.
  • The server will not start. Read the Console and Find and read a crash report.
  • Lag. The author's server readme recommends 4 GB. See Why is my server lagging.

The author's troubleshooting page covers the rest.

Warning

Installing a pack reinstalls your server and replaces its files, including the world. Keep Take a backup first ticked.
