Set up Multiverse-Core on Minecraft
Install Multiverse-Core, create extra worlds, move between them, set per-world rules and permissions, and remove worlds safely on your server.
Multiverse-Core lets one Paper or Purpur server run several worlds at once, such as a creative plot world, a flat build world and a minigame map beside your survival world. You create each world with a command, move between them, and set rules like PvP and difficulty per world. Players install nothing.
Checked against Multiverse-Core 5.8.1, listed for Minecraft up to 26.3, October 2026.
Install it
- Open Plugins, under Content in the panel menu, and leave the Modrinth button selected.
- Search
Multiverse-Coreand click Install. - Open Console and click Restart, or Start if the server is stopped. Restart the server to load a new plugin.
Multiverse-Core creates its own folder, plugins/Multiverse-Core, with its config.yml and worlds.yml. Add-ons such as Multiverse-Portals need Multiverse-Core, and every Multiverse jar should be on the same major version, 5. Multiverse-Portals and addons covers them.
If Install says there is no build for your Minecraft version, set Game version to Any version and install it. Read the Console on the next start, because a build for an older Minecraft may not load.
Create a world
Type these in the Console tab, or in game with a leading slash. A world name cannot contain spaces.
mv create creative normal
mv create flat_world normal --world-type flat
mv create mountain_world normal --seed gargamel
mv create my_hell netherThe second word is the environment: normal, nether or the_end. --world-type accepts normal, flat, amplified and large_biomes. Creation can take a few seconds, and the Console shows its progress. Run mv list to see your worlds.
Multiverse only asks Minecraft to make the world. Multiverse's documentation warns that other plugins that create worlds can cause messy conflicts, so if you add one, test it on a backup first.
Move between worlds
These are in-game commands:
/mv tp creativetakes you to a world, and/mv tp <player> creativetakes someone with you./mv setspawnsets the spawn of the world you stand in./mv spawntakes you back to it.
From the console you can set a spawn by adding a location: mv setspawn creative:0,64,0.
Change a world's rules
mv modify changes one property of one world:
mv modify creative set pvp false
mv modify world_extreme set difficulty hardFor a mob type, use entity-spawn-config. For example, mv entity-spawn-config modify creative monster set spawn false stops monsters spawning there.
Remove or delete a world
mv remove <world>unloads a world and drops it from Multiverse, but it does not delete the folder.mv delete <world>also deletes the world folder. If it asks for a code, runmv confirm <otp>within 30 seconds, using the code it shows.
Take a backup first, as How to create and restore backups shows. Deleted worlds do not come back.
Who may use it
Operators have every Multiverse permission by default. For other players, a world's access permission is multiverse.access.<worldname>, but Multiverse ignores it while enforce-access in config.yml is false, which is the default. With LuckPerms, a console command such as this adds a permission:
lp group default permission set multiverse.access.creative trueSet up LuckPerms on your Minecraft server covers groups.
If it does not work
- Players respawn in the wrong world. Set the respawn world with
mv modify <death-world> set respawn-world <world>. Multiverse's FAQ names EssentialsX as a common cause of respawn problems. Set up EssentialsX Spawn lists the setting to change. - A datapack does not apply to your new world. Multiverse's FAQ says datapacks install only in the default world, with no per-world support, and that worlds Multiverse creates may or may not be affected.
- You already have a world folder. Use the import steps in Import a world with Multiverse-Core.
