Multiverse-Portals and addons on Minecraft
Build portals between worlds with Multiverse-Portals, set who can use them, and see what NetherPortals, Inventories and SignPortals add.
Multiverse-Portals adds portals you build yourself that lead to any Multiverse destination: another world, exact coordinates, or another portal. It is one of several add-ons for Multiverse-Core. The others cover Nether and End links, separate inventories per world and sign portals, and they are listed near the end of this guide. All of them run on Paper and Purpur, and players install nothing.
Checked against Multiverse-Portals 5.3.0 and Multiverse-Core 5.8.1, October 2026.
Install it
Multiverse-Portals needs Multiverse-Core first. Set up Multiverse-Core on your Minecraft server covers it, including how to create the worlds your portals will lead to. Keep every Multiverse jar on major version 5.
- Open Plugins, under Content in the panel menu, with Modrinth selected.
- Search
Multiverse-Portalsand click Install. If a prompt says it needs Multiverse-Core, click Install all. - Open Console and click Restart, or Start if the server is stopped.
If Install says there is no build for your Minecraft version, set Game version to Any version and install it, then read the Console on the next start.
Build a portal
Do this in game as an operator. Whitelist players and set operators shows how to make one.
- Build a frame. Multiverse says it can be made of anything, even nothing.
- Type
/mvp wandto get the wand, a wooden axe by default. Left-click one corner of the frame and right-click the opposite corner. If WorldEdit is installed, select with its own wand instead,//wand. - Watch the volume number in the message. If it is in the thousands, an old selection is still active, so click the corners again.
- Create the portal and say where it goes:
/mvp create lobbyportal w:lobby
/mvp create mineportal e:minesworld:100,64,-40
/mvp create returnportal p:lobbyportalw: is a world's spawn, e: is exact coordinates in a world, and p: is another portal. If you create a portal with no destination, select it with /mvp select <portal>, then run /mvp modify destination p:otherportal to set one.
Portals do not fill with purple Nether portal blocks. You can place water or lava inside for the look.
Decide who can use it
Players need the permission multiverse.portal.access.<portalname> for each portal. Until you give it, only operators can use any portal. With LuckPerms, this console command opens every portal to everyone:
lp group default permission set multiverse.portal.access.* trueIf world access is enforced in Multiverse-Core, players also need multiverse.access.<world> for the world the portal leads to. To skip the checks, run mvp config enforce-portal-access false.
Set up LuckPerms on your Minecraft server covers groups.
Manage portals
/mvp listshows your portals, and/mvp info <portal>shows one./mvp debugshows a portal's details when you walk into it, instead of teleporting you. Run it again to turn it off./mvp remove <name>deletes a portal. Breaking the frame does not.- By default only players can use portals. To let boats and mobs through, run
mvp config teleport-vehicles trueandmvp config teleport-entities true, restart, then runmvp modify <portal> teleport-non-players true.
The other add-ons
All of these need Multiverse-Core and install the same way from Plugins.
If it does not work
- Nothing happens at the portal. Check the permission above first, then turn on
/mvp debugto see what the portal points to. - Players are refused at the destination. They lack access to that world.
- The portal was created with no destination. Select it with
/mvp select <portal>and set one with/mvp modify destination.
