Set up Morph on your Minecraft server
Install Morph with Lib's Disguises and PacketEvents so players can turn into mobs they have killed, then set permissions and mob options.
Morph is a plugin that lets players turn into mobs they have killed and use some of those mobs' abilities. It is based on the Morph mod for Forge. Its listings are on SpigotMC and on dev.bukkit.org, which is CurseForge's Bukkit Plugins section. This guide uploads the jar from SpigotMC yourself, with the Plugins tab's CurseForge search as a second route. It also needs the Lib's Disguises plugin to work.
Checked against Morph 3.7.0, which its SpigotMC page lists for Minecraft 1.13 to 26.2, and Lib's Disguises 26.9.26, October 2026.
What you need
- A Paper or Purpur server. Vanilla servers have no Plugins tab, so switch software in JAR Manager first (see Change your Minecraft version or mod loader).
- Lib's Disguises. Morph's
plugin.ymllists it as a hard dependency, so Morph does not load without it. - PacketEvents. The Lib's Disguises SpigotMC page says it uses PacketEvents, and its
plugin.ymllists PacketEvents only as a soft dependency, so install it yourself first to be safe. Morph's own SpigotMC page still says it requires ProtocolLib, but that is out of date, so install PacketEvents instead.
Install the three plugins
- PacketEvents. Open the Plugins tab, leave the Modrinth button selected, search for PacketEvents and click Install.
- Lib's Disguises. Still in the Plugins tab, click GitHub, type
libraryaddict/LibsDisguisesand click Look up, then press Next. The newest stable release is already picked, so press Next again. It has one jar, so the wizard skips the File step. Check the Review step and click Install, which is the same button as Next. - Morph. Download the jar from the Morph page on SpigotMC. In the File Manager, open the
pluginsfolder, click Upload and choose the jar. As another route, select the CurseForge button and search for Morph. The results are limited to your server's Minecraft version, so if Morph by BumbleBeee_ is missing, press Show every version. Click Install on it to add Morph 3.7.0 toplugins. If it does not show up or will not install, use the SpigotMC jar. - Restart from the Console tab with Restart, then type
plugins. All three should be listed. Morph appears under the name Morphy, which is the name in itsplugin.yml.
When the server has no recent backup, an install from the Plugins tab first opens a No backup yet box. Click Go to Backups to take one, or click the install button that ends in anyway, for example Install PacketEvents anyway, to carry on without.
The GitHub step warns that nobody checks files on GitHub, so only install from a repository you trust. libraryaddict/LibsDisguises is the plugin's own repository.
Morph into a mob
A player has to kill a mob once before they can become it. The shipped mobConfig.yml sets requiredKills to 1 for the mobs in it. Then:
/morph <mob>turns you into that mob, for example/morph cow./unmorphchanges you back, and/morph statusshows what you are morphed as./morph info <mob>lists that mob's abilities./morph toggleswitches shift-click abilities on or off for yourself.
Most abilities fire when you shift-click, such as a blaze's fireball or an enderman's teleport. Crouch and F opens the morph menu, because swapMenu is true by default.
Permissions
The morph.* node, which covers the commands on Morph's SpigotMC page, defaults to operators. Everyone else needs nodes from a permissions plugin (see Set up LuckPerms):
morph.morphis the main permission. It covers/morph,/unmorph,/morph toggleand the view setting.morph.into.<mob>allows one mob, for examplemorph.into.horse.morph.into.*allows all of them. The SpigotMC page listsmorph.morphfor/morph <mob>and saysmorph.into.<mob>is what allows morphing into that mob, so grantmorph.morphand themorph.intonodes you want.morph.bypasskill.<mob>skips the kill requirement.morph.bypasskill.*covers every mob./forcemorph <player> <mob>,/addmorph <player> <mob>and/delmorph <player> <mob>are for staff.
Settings
Morph keeps its files in its plugin folder, plugins/Morphy, which is named after the plugin's plugin.yml name. Besides messages.yml and a UserData folder, it has two settings files. Edit them in the File Manager, then restart.
config.ymlhas the general options.enabled-worldslists the worlds where Morph works and starts with<all>.death-reset-currentistrue, so dying removes the morph you died as.persistMorphsistrue, which keeps morphs across logins.enable-playersisfalse, so players cannot become other players.mobConfig.ymlhas one block per mob withenabled,health,requiredKills,morph-time,morph-cooldownand, for mobs with an ability,ability-cooldown.
Common problems
- Morph does not load. It needs Lib's Disguises, and Lib's Disguises uses PacketEvents. Read the start of the Console log for a missing plugin.
- A player cannot morph yet. They have not killed that mob, or lack its
morph.intonode. - Nothing happens in a world. Check
enabled-worldsinconfig.yml. - The Console says
Morph power cannot be used. On Paper 26.3 the log readsMorph power cannot be used. Please use a supported minecraft version if you wish to use it.Morph's SpigotMC page lists Minecraft 1.13 to 26.2, so switch to Paper 26.2 in JAR Manager and take a backup first, because a world saved on 26.3 may not load on an older Paper. On Paper 26.2 Morph loads with only aFailed to find server versionwarning. morph helpin the Console says you cannot use this command. The reply is[Morph] You cannot use this command!, so run Morph's commands in game.
The Lib's Disguises README asks you to check that you are using the appropriate version of PacketEvents. After you change the Minecraft version in JAR Manager, use Check for updates in the Installed view of the Plugins tab, and back up first.
