Set up Jobs Reborn on Minecraft

Install Jobs Reborn and its CMILib library on Paper by upload, join a job, change what each block pays and fix the usual payment problems.

Updated 4 min read

Jobs Reborn lets each player pick jobs such as Miner, Farmer or Fisherman and earn money, points and experience for the matching actions. Jobs level up, and you can change what every action pays. It runs only on the server, so players install nothing.

Checked against Jobs Reborn 5.2.6.7, which SpigotMC lists for Minecraft up to 26.2, with CMILib 1.6.1.0, October 2026.

What you need

Install Jobs Reborn

Jobs Reborn's current builds are published on SpigotMC, and the Plugins tab has no SpigotMC source. The project's Bukkit page has a newest file of 4.17.2 from May 2021, which is too old to use. Upload the jars yourself:

  1. On your computer, download Jobs Reborn from spigotmc.org/resources/4216 and CMILib from spigotmc.org/resources/87610.
  2. Open File Manager and go into the plugins folder.
  3. Click Upload and choose both jars. The browser limit is 100 MB per file, and these are about 1 MB each. Connect to your server over SFTP is the way for larger files.
  4. Open Console and click Restart. The server needs a restart before a new plugin loads.

The first start creates plugins/Jobs. The main settings file is generalConfig.yml, and each job has its own file in the jobs folder inside it, such as miner.yml.

Join a job and check it works

In game, run these:

  • /jobs browse lists the jobs, and /jobs join miner joins one.
  • /jobs info miner break shows what Miner earns for breaking blocks.
  • /jobs stats shows your level and experience, and /jobs leave miner quits.

Players can join up to 3 jobs by default. The max-jobs setting in generalConfig.yml changes that, and -1 removes the limit. A player with the permission jobs.max.<number> gets that many regardless.

Change what a job pays

Open a job file in File Manager. Actions are grouped by type, and each block or mob under them has its own income, points and experience. The shipped miner.yml has entries like this, sitting under the top-level Miner: key beside many other blocks. This is an excerpt, so edit the numbers in place and keep the indentation:

Miner:
  Break:
    stone:
      income: 1
      points: 1
      experience: 1

Raise or lower the numbers, click Save, then run jobs reload in the Console. Names under Break must be blocks. If one is not, the Console reports "Material must be a block", and /jobs blockinfo while you look at a block prints that block's information.

Permissions

jobs.use lets a player use the plugin, and jobs.world.<worldname> allows payment in that world. The Jobs Reborn wiki says both are normally added for you. If they are not, add them to each group in your permissions plugin. Set jobs.join.<jobname> to false to block one job. The full list is on the plugin's GitHub wiki, and Set up LuckPerms on your Minecraft server shows how to assign them.

Where player data is saved

Jobs stores data in SQLite by default, set by storage.method in generalConfig.yml. It can also use MySQL, but plans here do not include a MySQL database, so leave it on sqlite.

Common problems

  • Players are not paid. Check jobs.use and jobs.world.<worldname>. For money, check that Vault and an economy plugin appear in the Installed view of the Plugins tab.
  • No payment for ore a player placed and broke again. Block protection is on by default (ExploitProtections.General.PlaceAndBreak.Enabled). The blocks it protects are listed in restrictedBlocks.yml.
  • The plugin does not load. Check that the CMILib jar is in plugins too. If a config file will not load, see How to find and fix YAML and JSON config errors.
