Set up ShopGUIPlus on your Minecraft server

Upload the paid ShopGUI+ jar with Vault and an economy plugin, open /shop, add shops and items in the shops folder and set permissions.

Updated 4 min read

ShopGUI+ gives your server a shop menu. Players type /shop, pick a category and buy or sell items, enchantments, permissions and commands, paid for with your economy plugin. It comes with ready-made shops, and every shop, price and message is a file you can edit.

Checked against ShopGUI+ 1.113.0 for Minecraft 1.21.11, October 2026.

What it needs

  • A paid jar. ShopGUI+ is a premium resource on SpigotMC, so it will not appear in the store in the Plugins tab. You buy it, download the jar and upload it.
  • A server that loads plugins. You need a Plugins tab, so Paper or Purpur. The SpigotMC page says the plugin has Folia support, and Folia is a fork of Paper.
  • A Minecraft version it supports. The public 1.113.0 build lists Spigot 1.8 to 1.21 as tested, and version 1.112.0 added Spigot 1.21.11. The SpigotMC page says 26.x support is only in development builds from the authors' Discord. Choose Paper and 1.21.11 in JAR Manager unless you have such a build (Change Minecraft server version or loader).
  • Java 17 or newer. The panel gives Minecraft 1.20.5 and newer Java 21, so 1.21.11 is fine.
  • Vault and an economy plugin. The page names Vault 1.4.1 or newer and any economy plugin that Vault supports, such as EssentialsX. See Set up Vault and Set up EssentialsX.
  • A permissions plugin, only to sell permissions. LuckPerms 5.0 or newer is the recommended one (Set up LuckPerms).

Install it

  1. Install Vault and your economy plugin first.
  2. Buy and download the jar from spigotmc.org/resources/shopgui-1-8-1-21.6515. See the page for the price.
  3. Open the Backups tab and click Create backup.
  4. Open File Manager, open the plugins folder and click Upload files. Choose the jar.
  5. Open the Console tab and click Restart. The plugin writes all its config files on first start.

Open your first shop

Make yourself an operator with Operators in the Players tab (Whitelist players and set operators). In game, run /shop. The main menu opens with the default shops.

Players need two kinds of permission. shopguiplus.shop lets them open the menu, and shopguiplus.shops.<SHOP_ID> gives access to a shop. The wildcard shopguiplus.shops.* opens every shop, but only with a permissions plugin that supports wildcards. The authors' documentation names LuckPerms and PermissionsEx as working, while the SpigotMC page names only PermissionsEx and UltraPermissions. If the wildcard does not open every shop, grant each shop's node. Negate one shop's node to ban players from that shop. Grant these in your permissions plugin.

Add a shop and items

Open plugins/ShopGUIPlus/shops/ in File Manager. Each file is one shop, and the file name matches the shop's ID. A shop has a name and an items section. Each item has a type, an item with material and quantity, a buyPrice, a sellPrice and a slot:

armor:
  name: "&4&lArmor (page %page%)"
  items:
    1:
      type: item
      item:
        material: LEATHER_HELMET
        quantity: 1
      buyPrice: 40
      sellPrice: 8
      slot: 10

To make a new shop show in the main menu, open config.yml, find shopMenuItems and copy one of the existing entries. Give the copy its own number, an item block (material, quantity and name) for the menu icon, the shop ID of your new shop and a slot, counting from 0 to 53. Then run /shop reload or restart from the Console tab.

Useful commands

  • /shop opens the main menu. /shop <shop name> opens one shop directly.
  • /sell hand [quantity] sells what you hold. /sell handall sells every matching item in your inventory. /sell all sells everything in your inventory.
  • /shop worth shows the sale value of the held item, and /shop check shows details about it.
  • /shop reload reloads the configuration. It needs shopguiplus.reload.

Common problems

  • Buying does nothing. Check that an economy plugin Vault supports is installed, because ShopGUI+ needs one.
  • Players see a shop in the menu but cannot open it. They lack shopguiplus.shops.<SHOP_ID> for that shop.
  • It does not work on a 26.x server. The SpigotMC page says 26.x support is only in development builds from the authors' Discord. Use Minecraft 1.21.11 as above.
  • A bought item with a custom name looks wrong. The authors' FAQ explains how to strip custom names and lore from bought items.
Warning

Keep a copy of the shops folder before large edits, so you can restore a shop file you break.
