Set up GSit on your Minecraft server

Install GSit from the Plugins tab so players can sit on stairs, lie down, spin and crawl, with its commands, permissions and config options.

Updated 3 min read

GSit lets players sit on stairs, slabs and carpets by right-clicking them, and adds commands to lie down, spin and crawl. Paper or Purpur is all the server needs, and nobody installs anything on their own computer.

Checked against GSit 3.7.0, which lists Paper, Purpur and Folia on Minecraft 1.16 to 26.3 on its Modrinth page, October 2026.

What you need

  • A Paper or Purpur server. Vanilla servers have no Plugins tab, so switch software in JAR Manager first (see Change your Minecraft version or mod loader).
  • Minecraft 1.18 or newer if you want the lay, spin and crawl poses. The plugin's page says the pose and crawl features only work from 1.18.
  • No other plugin is required. GSit can use GriefPrevention, PlotSquared, WorldGuard and PlaceholderAPI if they are installed, but it does not depend on them.

Install it

  1. Open the Plugins tab and leave the Modrinth button selected.
  2. Search for GSit and click Install on the result by gecolay.
  3. Restart from the Console tab (or click Start if the server is stopped), then type plugins. GSit should appear in the list.

What players can do

  • Right-click a stair, slab or carpet with an empty hand to sit on it, or run /sit.
  • /lay, /bellyflop, /legsup and /spin put the player in that pose.
  • /crawl crawls along the ground. By default, sneaking in front of a one-block-high gap also starts a crawl.
  • Right-click another player to sit on them, when Options.PlayerSit.allow-sit is true. It is true in the plugin's repository config.
  • /sit toggle switches right-click sitting on blocks on or off for that player, and /sit playertoggle does the same for sitting on other players.

To stand up again, a player sneaks. That is the default.

Permissions

The basic permissions are on for everyone by default: GSit.Sit, GSit.SitClick, GSit.SitToggle, GSit.PlayerSit, GSit.PlayerSitToggle, GSit.Lay, GSit.LegsUp, GSit.BellyFlop, GSit.Spin and GSit.Crawl. These stay operator-only:

  • GSit.Reload allows /gsitreload.
  • GSit.Update shows update notices.
  • GSit.Kick.Sit and GSit.Kick.Pose let staff remove a player from a seat or pose.
  • GSit.ByPass.World, GSit.ByPass.Command and GSit.ByPass.Region skip the matching restriction.

A permissions plugin such as LuckPerms can take a permission away from a group, for example to remove GSit.PlayerSit from new players.

Change the settings

Open GSit's config.yml in the File Manager, edit it, then run /gsitreload in the Console to apply the change while the server runs. Useful settings:

  • Options.Sit.SitMaterials is the list of blocks players can sit on by clicking. It starts with the stairs, slabs and carpets tags.
  • Options.Sit.empty-hand-only is true by default, so the player's main hand must be empty to sit by clicking.
  • Options.PlayerSit.allow-sit turns sitting on other players on or off, and Options.PlayerSit.max-stack limits the stack height. 0 means no limit.
  • Options.Pose.lay-snoring-sounds is false by default. Set it to true for snoring while lying down. Snoring only plays at night unless you also set Options.Pose.lay-snoring-night-only to false.
  • Options.WorldBlacklist lists worlds where GSit is disabled, and Options.WorldWhitelist limits it to the listed worlds.
Tip

Those defaults come from the plugin's current repository config. Open the file GSit wrote on your own server to see the values your version uses.

Common problems

  • Right-clicking a stair does nothing. Check the player's hand is empty, they have GSit.SitClick, and they have not turned sitting off with /sit toggle. On a slab, the plugin only lets them sit on the bottom half by default.
  • It works for you but not inside a protected region. The plugin's page says WorldGuard regions need the ride, interact or build flag allowed.
  • A pose command is missing. Poses and crawling need Minecraft 1.18 or newer.
