Install Weather, Storms and Tornadoes
Install Weather2 2.8.7 on a NeoForge 1.21.1 server with CoroUtil, which the install window misses, then tune tornadoes in the config.
Weather, Storms and Tornadoes, also called Weather2, is a mod by Corosus that replaces vanilla weather with local storm systems. Rain clouds build up over water and moist biomes, storms roll in from a distance, and tornadoes can form and tear up the ground. It is required on the server and on every player's game.
Checked against Weather2 2.8.7 and CoroUtil 1.3.8 on NeoForge 1.21.1, October 2026.
Pick the server version
Modrinth lists Weather2 2.8.7 (24 May 2026) for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21 and 1.21.1, and 2.8.3 for Forge and NeoForge on 1.20.1. The 2.8.7 jar asks for NeoForge 21.0.0 or newer. The CurseForge page says there are no plans for a Fabric version.
To use the newer build, open JAR Manager under More, set Server software to NeoForge and Minecraft version to 1.21.1, then press Apply change. Leave Take a backup first ticked, then press and hold Confirm & reinstall for 3 seconds. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the full steps.
What it needs
Weather2 requires the library mod CoroUtil, version 1.21.0-1.3.7 or newer, which the jar's own mod file states. The Modrinth listing for 2.8.7 shows no dependency, so the install window will not offer CoroUtil. Install it yourself.
Install it
- Open Mods under Content. The Modrinth chip is selected by default, and the Game version filter starts on your server's version.
- Search for
CoroUtil, choose the NeoForge 1.21.1 build (1.21.0-1.3.8) and press Install. - Search for
Weather Storms & Tornadoes, the project's title on Modrinth, and press Install. - Restart from the Console tab.
Open the Installed view afterwards. Both mods should show with no Failed to load badge.
Players need it too
Each player needs Weather2 and CoroUtil for NeoForge 1.21.1 in their own game. Join a modded server from your launcher covers the player side, and Fix the missing mods exception when joining helps when a player is refused.
What you get
The project page lists tornadoes that spawn from storm systems, rain that builds up locally, snowstorms and sandstorms, and a particle-based look for clouds and rain. It also adds a Deflector block that pushes storms away and protects builds from block damage, a Wind Vane, an Anemometer, and a Tornado Sensor block that gives a redstone signal when a tornado is near. The project page says the Deflector protects builds.
Server settings
Weather2 has several config categories, including Misc, Storm and Tornado. After the first start each one is a file in the config/Weather2 folder, such as Misc.toml, Storm.toml and Tornado.toml, and CoroUtil keeps General.toml in config/CoroUtil. Stop the server before you edit. Keys named in the jar that matter on a server:
Storm_Tornado_grabBlockscontrols whether tornadoes tear up blocks from the ground.Storm_Tornado_grabPlayersOnlylimits grabbing to players.Storm_NoTornadosOrCyclonesturns off tornadoes and cyclones, for a calmer world.Aesthetic_Only_Modekeeps the wind, leaves and foliage effects and removes the weather systems.
Tornadoes can tear up blocks and carry players, so make a backup in the Backups tab before you let a storm loose on a world you care about.
Common problems
- The server stops at startup: open the Console. Weather2's mod file lists CoroUtil as required, so check it is in the Installed view first. Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers reading the log.
- A player cannot join: check their game matches the Weather2 and CoroUtil versions named under "Players need it too".
- The mod is missing from the store: the Game version filter follows your server. Weather2 has builds for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 only in the current listing.
